speaker wire questions?

SWINE FLU!!!!
this is kind of an odd question...but i was wondering if you can take out all the wires from all the speakers and just start over with a new head-unit?

now i'll explain why and maybe you'll understand better...

My car is a 1979 Volkswagen Beetle. It has a tape player HU. The part i don't understand is, the fade and balance is all ****ed up. no matter which way i turn the fade or balance knobs, it just seems like it's only going front to back, and even then it doesn't really sound like it's cutting the 'back' all the way out.

so i was wondering, when i decide to install my new HU(pioneer premier 770) can i just take out all the existing speaker wires, and redo them with new wire?

because as it's set up currently, i have a speaker in each door(2 door) and a speaker in each front kick, but i plan on replacing the door panels with panels without a speaker hole. So i'll pretty much be running 2 mids(in the kicks), 2 tweeters(up on the dash somewhere) and a sub(in the trunk in the front)

and seeing as how it's been hard for me to locate a wiring harness, i was wondering if you could just do without the wiring harness and just run all new wires?

sorry if this thread got too long and confusing, but if you have any questions i'd be happy to try to explain better, and i can also post pics if you'd like.

No problem doing what you described , only problem I can see is those beetles had some weak alts .

i'm upgrading though.

Of course you can run all new wires ...
so if i'm running new wires...i'd need how many wires just for the speakers?

run the left tweet and mid to the left channel? then the right tweet and mid to the right channel?

then later on when i get some rear fill i'd run those to the back left and right?

or is it more complicated than that?

It's actually a very good idea to rip it all out and start over, since a lot of older radios and tape players used ground on one side of the speaker. You want to be sure that no speaker terminals are grounded with modern equipment.

wow 40 amp?

didnt know it was THAT small
and my car only has 48 horsepower stock //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

my speedometer is broken(has been since i bought the car just haven't had time/money to worry about that right now) and on the freeway when i have it floored all the way down, i just BARELY pass people lol.

i'd say i can do like 77 78 tops
