Speaker terminals melting?

I am building an enclosure that will be seeing 1000 watts RMS. I bought some speaker terminals and the guy that owns the local shop said not to use them as he has seen terminal cups melt at 1000 watts. I find this hard to believe. He suggested just running the wire through the boards and sealing them up with silicon rather than going through a terminal cup. I can do this no problem, but it looks a tad ghetto. Anyone have any experience with terminal cups melting?

yes i have, if your bolts or whatever u want to call them on the back arent tight enough they arc and melt the plastic. i wouldn't use those terminal cups
