Its time for me to upgrade my speakers in my 05 malibu but im not too sure what to go for. Ive been looking at CDT and ID but not too sure which would fit or would be the amount of power i want. I want to put about 200watss on each side but 150 or over would be fine so any suggestions id greatly appreciate. And im willing to spend around 250-300.

Also i see some more of the expensive comps that say only 100watts RMS or around there, im just a little confused how expensive comps only handle so little is it because theyre superior in quality or something?

thanks

Most of the ratings are full range... in other words, if the speaker is rated 40HZ - 20,000 HZ, 100 watts RMS, that's if you high pass them at 40hz or run them full range. If you set the high pass around 80 - 100 HZ or higher, comps will often handle double the power.

Also, many speakers are overpriced.

ooh alright that helps..also ive been looking at the CDT eurosport es-610 6.5 so i just wanted to know if putting 200 watts on each side be good enough or too much for that set? also my front speakers are 6-3/4" does that mean 6.5 would fit in there or may need some customizing sorry if this is a dumb question.

Lastly if you run the comps at lets say 80 hz instead of 40 does that mean youre giving up quality for loudness or something else?

- The power sounds about right.

- 6.5" will fit where a 6.75" will... the shop will make a mounting ring/spacer out of 1/4" MDF (wood) to fit the smaller speaker.

- Almost all good systems these days are based on a bi-amped sub/satellite system. Basically, you have a couple amp channels on the front components with the high pass crossover in the amp set around 80HZ... then one or two amp channels drive one or more subs in the rear low-passed around 60 hz or so... the crossover points are staggered a little to eliminate the midbass peak most cars have. This can all be done with as little as one set of speakers up front, a single sub in a box in the rear, and a single 4-channel amplifier.

Since the speakers are operating in a narrower band, they have less distortion and can handle more power, get louder... the whole system is more efficient, dynamic, and cleaner sounding this way.

The Es series comps should have no problem taking a clean 200 watts rms. i have heard them with the jl 300/2 giving them 150 a side and they took it with ease and sounded outstanding.

I went to a store that just recently opened near me and they carry MB Quart. All I can say is Holy Crap!!! I think they are some of the nicest most natural sounding speakers Ive ever heard.I think the model number was PCE-216.The guy said they could easily take 200 watts a side.

how does the CDT eurosport es-610 compare to lets say the rainbow cmx 265's or any other component sets in the $250-300 price range?

i have the entry level CDT CL series comps and love them, The ES is the top of the line series and should sound amazing. i have actually asked for those same ES comps for x mas. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Gary would you say those comps are better altogether then the CDT's? and the PPI's look appealing how do those compare SQ and SPL wise to the CDT's? If i got the PPI what kind of power you think would be good for it 150 or maybe 200 watts a side?
