Speaker installation

I have an extra pair of 6X9 speakers that I want to put in my trunk. I would like to make small box mounts for them or buy them if they are cheap enough. What materials would I use to make the boxes? Also is there any way to wire the speakers to my amp? I'm not very good at all this electrical stuff so this is all probably very trivial to all of you but any help you can give is appreciated.

You can build the boxes out of mdf or you can buy prefab boxes pretty cheap. As far as wiring goes, more information is needed. What amp and how many speakers do you already have connected to it.

MDF, providing your amp is not a sub amp that pushes large amounts of power and it is a 4channel or something like that and you don't currently have it over loaded with other speakers Yes

Too much to correct here...
I have to agree. I would concider re-wiring the entire system and possibly buying another amp to go along with the system, I am surprised that you have not either blown something or lit something on fire

I am not sure if I would blow anything on purpose. I would go out and buy a quality 4ch amp for the 2 6X9 speakers and the speakers in the car. I would power the other amp to the subs.

You are overloading the amp the way you have it now! If I am correct in my understanding you have 4 speakers and 2 12" subs hooked up to it now and you want to add these 2 6X9" speakers to it giving you a total of 8 drivers hooked to this one little amp right?

Wait no, I think I typed that wrong. Basically I had Best Buy install everything. The speakers are hooked into the cd player I believe. The only thing thats on the amp so far as I know is the two 12"subs. I'm no good at this stuff so I basically gave the two sets of speakers, the amp, and the subs (in box) to Best Buy and said "go put this in." I'm just looking to add the two speakers to the trunk so I can hear the music and not just bass when I open the trunk. Hope that clears it up. Sorry.

OK so tell me if this works because logically in my head it seems to. If I hook up the speakers to the same contacts as the subwoofers on the amp with a fuse wire on the positive of each speaker, they should work no problem right? Would the amp divert power from the subs to run the speakers or would it kick in more power to compensate? Its a 1200 watt amp with subs that can take a max of 1200 and the speakers are 260 watt max power. Does this logic make sense or am I gonna end up setting my car on fire?

No, that will not work. Your subwoofer amplifier only puts out subsonic the frequencies that your subwoofers are designed to play. If you hooked up some 6x9's to that amplifier they will be sent tones MUCH too low for them to play, and will be fried very very quickly.

What amplifier do you have? Max power ratings mean nothing, RMS is the only number that you should be concerned with when picking out products. Max power is an imaginary number the manufacturer comes up with to attract buyers...

The only way to correctly do what you are asking would be to purchase another amplifier designed for mids and highs and hook it up to the 6x9's.

OK cool thanks. Now what are the specs of the amp I would need to buy for the 6X9s? I want to buy one for as cheap as possible, so what is the lowest I can go without sacrificing a ton of quality? Also how would I install that amp? I am thinking about mounting it to the top of the sub box with the wires running down behind then to the sides for the 6X9s. When wiring that amp up, how do I do it? just run the wires through the firewall to the battery again like the one i already have? Should I just get Best Buy or Circuit City to do it?
