Speaker EQ Help. Too much 'vocal', need to balance out soundstage.

Have been battling the same issues with my truck. I am still trying to figure out if it is a processing problem or a vehicle acoustics issue. Two sets of very highly regarded speakers and both have basically the same issue, although not as bad as the first set of speakers. I have EQed until blue in the face but am still missing some content behind the vocals. When the vocals are not playing they do great, but during chorus' and whatnot when there is a lot going on, I am missing stuff in certain songs and it is driving me nuts. Have messed with phase, EQ, etc. all to no avail. Beginning to wonder if I need to splurge on a HU with some heavy duty EQ abilities or if somehow my installation environment is just eating certain things in the music. The doors are as deadened and sealed as they can get and can barely even get the panel back on, with ensolite, etc. Lot of subtle things in complex passages are not even being played. The "crappy" Bose system in my 04 Chevy pickup plays them great while the system in my truck I have spent over a grand on now isn't.

I'm really enjoying my Kenwood X991 because of issues like this...it has so many settings that I can EQ any peak or abnormality out of the music (at least to my ears anyway)...it has been a MAJOR improvement over my old Pioneer p780-mp
