Space Limited Setup

I am new to car audio and this will be my first system. It will be going in a 98 s10 single cab so I want to preserve my leg room. I have decided to go with a single 12" shallow mount sub and I am going to build my own box so that I can get it to fit just the way I want. This is a Memphis sub that some guys on another forum I visit led me to. I also need amplifier recommendations since I have no clue there. I think I need to get a definite sub picked out first though.

Anyway I need to know if that would be a good sub or if there is another in that price range that would be good or better. I would like to spend $400 or less for the sub and amp(total) if at all possible. Less would be even better if I could get comparable sound quality. Plus if I could save a little money then I could get better door speakers and upgrade my head unit. Any help is greatly appreciated since I don't know much at all. And yes I did read some of the FAQ's but I need more specific info that those provide.

Maybe check out a si mag d4? I don't know to much about em, but I'm sure there will be a few people chime in.

I think their mounting depth is only somewhere around 5"s.

or you could go with a dd t1500 series subs....they are shallow but not flat subs....can take 1200 watts rms all day also
What is a dd t1500. I'm sorry I am so new with all this. I tried to figure it out but no luck. I will also add that I am not really looking to blow my eardrums either. I think about a 500 watt RMS sub and a 500 watt amp would suit me fine.

I was hoping to find something around 4" or less but I may be able to do 5.

Like I said I am not really looking to be insanely loud. I want decent bass but I mostly want it to sound good.

actually no....steve....who designed these subs specifically talked to me and said that around 750 was their limits for daily. DD put 1500 to theirs during tests and the thing was pushing the limits, burps and what not.

But 500 or so will be nice daily on them. The t series is shorter with a differant motor design, which creates different mechanical limits and shorter coil. All in all they cant handle as much power

Check out the pioneer premier shallow subs. I made a fiberglass box for a buddy in his ranger and it sounds pretty good in a 1ft3 sealed box with 400 watts. No loss in leg room what so ever. For the price and application I we were both very happy with it.

Thanks for all of the ideas guys but I think the Digital Designs and JL Audio will be above my price range. I am still trying to stay within that $400 total for the sub and amp.

So far whats in my price range is the Memphis 15-SC12D4, Kicker 07CVT124, Pioneer Premier shallow, or Kenwood Excelon shallow.

Any other shallow subs ~$200 or less that would sound good and take 500 watts rms all day?
