Is there any subs that will out perform a sp4? I mean I'm trying to avoid going with this simply because the waiting period I've been reading about this sub since it first came out..

Versatile

Ported

Sealed

4th order

Massive output

Takes well above rated

Sold build

**** looking (lol)

Under $500

Very good SQ

they are actually pretty efficient too, in a proper box, they can still put out some decent volume even when horribly underpowered. There will always be people complaining about the tinsel leads and stuff but not everyone goes nuts with their SP4s.

we considered the SP4 in a few builds but its inefficiency is what pushed us to the BL. 87dB vs 94dB. you'd need about 3x as much power for the SP4.
a lot of the sensitivity ratings dont mean too much when it comes to some of the subs on the market.

here's pretty decent results from an sp4 on 1000 watts.

i don't see anything useful in that video to support claims of efficiency. i see a chevy with stuff moving around, nothing special, and any 18 with 1kW will do the same thing. when we put 4kW on a Fi 18BL my neighbor yelled at me for knocking stuff off his walls. Neither testimonial has anything to do with efficiency.

i agree the enclosure is going to have a much larger effect on "efficiency" than the rated efficiency. but, when all else is equal, it makes a big difference. The SP4 has one of the lowest efficiencies of an 18" sub that i've seen.

my $0.02 - i'd go Tantric HDD or SHD in an SPL build.

Here's the SHD 24" for sale:

My hdd was twice as loud on a third the power as this sp4 i have. But this could be the shd soft parts or the different box i used for each install. The hdd was in a larger slot ported box with loads of port per cu. The sp4 is in a smaller box with a 8" aero. If i had more power im sure i could match the output of the hdd. Dont get me wrong though this bish gets hella loud and clean doing it. Its all in the end users goals though.

I didn't know you can get the hdd with different soft parts...two b2 audio zero.1 on two hdd 18's might make a little noise
