Is the Soundstream Tarantula, the mono amplifier, really as good as it is?

That amp makes me all tingly inside. I love Soundstreama the TR's are supposed to be beasts and very efficient. The TR2000 has many features. Plus they look awesome. I was gonna get the TR1600.2 but I ended up getting the VGA1600.2.

Uhm... How about this?

Two Kole Audio Q1-3000D amplifiers and hook each amp up to a Brahma 12" subwoofer?

Are they any good?

The Tarantulas are all Class A ... And the original Tarantula pulls like 300 amperes ... Also came with its own alternator //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
Definitely not efficient ...

Not sure about the new ones, but I believe they are still Class A and probably quite inefficient as well ... Could be wrong on that, though ...

How do you know it came with it's own Alternator? Can you supply a link? Thanks.

And I thought that the new Soundstream amps i.e Van Gogh and Tarantula are more efficient because they produce maximum watts at higher ohms, which is less current.

Uhm maybe I should go for the Kole Audio amplifiers.

I received the following email back, concerning the Kole Audio Q1-3000D amplifiers:

1) All power ratings are done at 13.5 volts.

2) The dampening is between 250 and 500, depending on load-line characteristics.

3) I am not familiar with the woofers you mentioned. As long as you are providing a minimum of 70% of the woofer's power capacity and a maximum of 100%, you're OK. So, match-up the woofers you intend to use with the amplifier you want to use, acording to this reasoning.

The dampening factor looks nice, especially when running them at 4 ohms. Secondly, they are pretty cheap amplifiers. Maybe worth the "risk"...?

what is the word on the van gogh series. im on the fence between the van gogh series (vga1600.2) and the us acoustics (usg2300). the van gogh definately seems to have more bellz and whistlez but ive had a bad experience with some soundstream stuff so i look at it like---mo bellz and whistlez mo problemz. but i was wondering what you think of the van gogh series.

The Van Gogh amps are supposed to be top quality. They were designed by SS chief engineer. So I just bought two of them //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Ordered the the VGA1600.2 for my sub and the VGA600.2 for my components. They should be here in a couple of days. I heard nothing but great reviews about these amps. Just an FYI, your car may need a HO Alternator running that amp. I know I do.

And I never had a problem with the older SS stuff, they were built solid and so are these.

I've never used the Van Gogh line, so I couldn't tell you ... I've heard they're supposed to be top quality as well.
