lol i just hooked up my system two t512s and a soundstream rub1-2500d when playing them pretty loud i get a funny smell its very faint the gain is only turned up about a quarter is this just a new sub smell or problematic also how long is break in on a typical sub

There's a competitor around here that was running a pair of the 15" T5's and even after having them for several months you could still smell the coils after he'd demo or finish a run on the meter.

I have an Orion Sub that I've been pounding for almost 2 years and it still smells after a while of hard playing.

if it keeps smelling you are getting the coil hot enough to soften the glue that holds the wire to the former. after a while it will come unraveled...
this ^^^

especially since you just got them (and i assume they were bnib) they are going to smell . . . .

that is alot of amp too.

yes they are bnib and installed them and the amp but local stereo shop adjusted everything i turned the gain down after they were done to b on the safe side its just a faint burning smell i guess and yes the amp is very strong i cant see the subs holding up to it if adjusted the gain its about 1/8th of a turn up

feel the cone after you play them for a while and start to smell them. just becuase your gain issnt cranked doesnt neccescarily mean your not clipping? bass boost up? is your subsonic filter set at a suitable freq? among other things
