SounDigital SD1800.1D clamp testing, SPL testing, review.

Easy solution for high current draw situations.
Isn't this why companies started using dual power inputs in the first place?
Id personally feel safer using dual power inputs as well especially because I dont fuse anything. Im sure 1/0 guage could handle the current but at what length would be safe? like 3-5" long? It doesnt give you many installation options with wire at that length.

i dont really see that as a problem, if you need to run 4/0 and make a down size thing to 1/0 just make 4/0 awg terminal to the back of a 1/0 and do like 3" of 1/0 to the amp. 1/0 will pull what 300amps no prob, and the shorter the run the more it will handle. imo it can do it w/o any issues so to the odd person out who needs it to draw 400 amps+ for extended periods of time they should be able to dish out the couple bucks to get reducers or find a way to do it.

no i believe with a bout a foot, maybe foot and half you would be okay.

but if you note my idea, you would be fine runnin a couple feet from the battery bank

Geez you guys. If you're so concerned run a second line and get a connector to plug them into the amp.

I think I can safely say we are all pretty creative here - use your ingenuity to get around this "problem".

I am not arguing against the smaller amps like Noah tested, I'm arguing about the larger amps that make over 5000 and 8000 watts.

I don't feel that customers should have to make modifications to fix this "problem." I cannot see the close up pictures of the SD8000.1D, either because the website is not done or my computer is stupid. Murilo is claiming this amp will produce 13000 watts on the ouput, and from what I can see there is only one set of power and ground terminals. If this amount of power is true, then over 800 amps of current could be drawn through a single piece of 1/0 without any special connector. Why are these amps not safe and ready to go from the very beginning? Are customers expected to tool up a special connector, just like Alan Dante uses in his Stetsom amps? I have seen Alan's car, and if I'm not mistaking he has 4 runs of power and 4 runs of ground per amp via special tooled connectors. Unfortunately, I don't have pictures of how Alan does his amps on me. I think I took a picture, but is on a friend's camera. I'm trying to find the pictures of what other competitors on the Termpro forum have done for their Stetsom amps, but am having trouble finding them.

They are very sweet little amps.
I think they are the next real wave to hit high output car audio now that Stetsom has all but packed up and headed home.

I dont believe you addressed the above statement.

can you shed some light on this please ?

Lakota,

put 15V on a SD8000 and we give you 13kW, this is fact.

For that you would need a GOOD battery system, and in any good install the battery is close to the amp. A 0 AWG cable with 30in or less is ok for the job.

Some big and crazy competitors make such fancy adapters, but this is not needed at most cases, they care about tents on the score.

I got a pic on my street B car of some simple connections...

problem is with lakota's and mine if we run a amp like this is, we compete in MECA. we both have extended cab trucks, i cant remember how big his battery bank was but mine, 14 powermaster D3100's cannot fit inside the cab. in MECA our amps have to remain inside the truck or we get bumped to mod-ex or radical. so we cannot have short less than 30" runs but rather a couple feet

No this is your problem, your problem with these particular amps. If Murilo says they are okay with one run, then they are okay with one run. Either buy one and test one, find someone who has and check it out or stfu:)

u are a problem, all you are doing is going around sayin you can do it, murilo says you can do it, in our cases we cannot do it.

i mean how much extra would it cost to put at least say a single 3/0 input eh?

Look, these amps are *not new*. They have been running as they are down in the home country for quite some time. Do you not think if there were issues with the connector/wire size that it would have been identified and dealt with already? I am quite confident that had there been any issues with melting wire, fires et al, there would have been lawsuits flying and SounDigital probably wouldn't exist. Keep in mind, folks in Brazil aren't that much different than we are up here - in fact, they are more extreme in certain aspects. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

It's funny you mention Alan - now I ask you, why did Alan have to make special connectors just to run to the amps he was using? You would figure with the sheer output power of the amps they would have bigger connections for power wires...

If you are concerned about power wires and input connectors, solve it by running bigger gauge wire and a reducer or multiple runs with a special connector. Problem solved. Otherwise, don't buy the amp. Its that simple. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I dont like this comment....i mean it works.....theres nothing more needed to be said.

If you cant get it too work in ur app than....hmmm.....that seems like a personal problem if countless others have no issue

Who cares about MECA....the 3 people that compete in it haha.....just poking fun //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Wow what a stupid shit fest this has become.
I agree. It is silly, just like any other ca.com thread. Not sure, but I think that is why I'm attracted to this forum so much..//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
