hello

i'm pretty new to the audio field of the automotive industry. i am about to complete a custom car project i've been working on for the past year, and i just got the sound system. i would need some tips on which sub box is best and what size alt i will need for the system. here's the stuff

audison VRx 6.420 + audison VRx 1.500 amps

hertz HV200 midbass

hertz HL70 midrange

hertz space 1 tweeters

hertz mille 3800 sub

the car is [or rather was] a 1968 opel rekord coupe.

what i need from the system is EXCEPTIONAL sound quality, spl being the last on the wishlist. i need to now what sub box to use [the sub appears to be intended for free air install, but i learnt that's the least likely to output good quality] and which capacity alt i would need, current being 40A.

thanks.

yea first replace that alt HO alts make pretty solid alts i would go with a 200 amp alt more is better than less also if you want great SQ i would go with a sealed box ported gernerally will give you more output at lesser power but less accuracy if SQ is your main goal go sealed i would build a box to factory specs for the subs and you should be fine also did you say what kind of HU you have... just curious

use a sealed box for your install. They usually have the best sound quality and are least sensitive to changes in box size, so it would be easier to do a custom install.

your also going to need some nice crossovers and maybe an equalizer.

the amps have built-in crossovers, eqs, subsonic filter and phase corrector. the head units are going to be a m-audio sound card from the car pc and a becker or nakamichi cd head unit, i am not really sure yet. any suggestion for the head unit as well?

as low as possible, of course, paid my *** off for the rest of the system already, but i am willing to come up to 2000 usd for a decent hu, if the price difference is really worth it.

anything over $400-500usd wont really get you extra sq(especially if your using external amps), just candy(screens, ipod adapter stuff, radio id, dvd audio, sacd etc). actually, for a normal 1din deck(w/o flip out screens etc) they max out at about $500-$600

No.... there are several head units that exceed that price and dip into the thousands. there are alot of nak decks that sound phenomenal.. but you wont find them for under 800. that was a really silly statement. there is always something better out there. Think of the new Pioneer P9 combo. Way over 600. do some research.
