Sound stopped working in car

Hello,

I have a 2000 Olds Mobile Alero and my car stereo has stopped playing sound. I can not figure out the problem after checking the fuses and I believe the speakers are fine. The sound instantly cut out after turning my fade knob. The radio wasn't even playing loud when the sound cut out. Everything in the car is stock nothing has been enhanced. I would greatly appreciate some help. Thank you
