hey i was wondering if anyone has or knows where i can get a pic or two of a sound quality system's RTA read-out?? i just got my audiocontrol EQX installed and have been trying to tune it for the past couple weeks. im KINDA satisfied with how ive got my system to sound for now, but would just like to see a professional's RTA read-out so i can get somewhat of an idea of what certain competitors aim for.

For a daily driver, RTA should mainly be used to flatten out peaks and valleys. After that, it's going to depend on your personal preference and such where you are going to need to tune more by ear than by screen.

in what way do you mean? you have an rta now? eq settings are speaker and install dependant. so if you are talking about "looking at an eq" they will be different. if you have an rta i always start off with what i call a 37 sea gull as my starting point -2 db down at 1k .......(37 is the rta score of it no deviants of 3 db anywhere but not flat)

hehe thats exactly what you use them for too. same rta graph on 2 cars can sound alot different
I realized that came out wrong. I thought he was refering to the eq points //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

ohhh.. that just fvcks my plans up. haha, sorry i thought that if i could achieve the same RTA graph as a sound quality car then maybe my car would sound just a little like theirs and a lot better than what i have mine set at now. basically, i like the tonality of sound in my car but im just not feeling the concert imaging effect.. i guess the EQ wont help me achieve that. instead, i should have my components in kick pods?? right now i have the mids in-door and the tweets at the top of in-door.. factory location of an acura integra. i want nice imaging!!!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif

edit: cool, i hit 1000 posts

if i took a picture of my EQX settings can you guys look at it and tell me some obvious flaws with my EQ'ing? im not asking you guys to judge my setup by looking at the EQ, but to see if im "likely" cutting too much or not cutting enough of something?

i have a pic of what dave is talking about at my house.

ill post it here later.

basically, 1k is -2 (and there is a slight negative slope on the graph around 1k) and 20hz and 20khz are down -2 (and again, a slight negative slope at each end at 20 and 20k).

as far as the EQ - we cant tell you what the knobs need to be at. you can look at the RTA an see peaks and valleys pretty eaisly. put the RTA in there - make sure its not at the fastest refresh rate (i like mine at like 65miliseconds so i can actually see the graph refresh, but its not as sparatic) and make sure you are playing MONO 0db pink noise - just loud enough to 'fill the area' you have the mic in. and put the mic at the headrest of the vehicle (driverseat)

thats how i read about it, and dave explained it (feel free to correct me if anything is wrong\missing)

but after you get the '37 seagull' as he calls it, make sure you listen to ALOT of music, and *TWEAK* (ie: dont make any DRASTIC changes) your music to your tastes //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

crap. did i forget to mention i dont have an RTA? the reason i made the original post was basically assuming that my car had an already-flat RTA frequency response.. but how often does that happen? well anyway, i guess i found what i was loking for kinda.. the seagull looking EQ? basically its like drawing a stick figure of a bird right? and its beak (or the middle dip) would be 1 khz? are you planning to show me a picture of your in-home equallizer REQ? i ask this because shouldnt an in-home equalizer with flat settings yield a flat RTA response? (assuming this is an empty room?)

is this an example of the seagull 37?
