Headunit Question

is there a setting to shut off the speaker outs since I will be amping my speakers? I don't want my headunit wasting time trying to pump out wattage to speakers that won't be connected. I know that if nothins connected, there is no circuit, but why waste time processing the signals in the first place?

Second question was, I'm using Knukonceptz cables with a built in turn on lead. But the turn on lead is VERY small, like 26 gauge. Think it will be enough to carry a small 12v turn on signal?

The wire coming off of my relay's output that I have feeding the remote turn-on circuits of both of my amps is that small. All it has to do is present a 12v positive current to the amp - basically in any amount - for it to turn on.

Whether or not you can turn off your head unit's internal amplifier if it isn't being used is completely dependant on your specific head unit. Some have that feature, some don't.

My KDC-X679 does have an internal amp mute and it makes a marked difference in the overall sound.

I'm sure Clarion has some kind of function to shut it off, but it might be complicated. I'm still trying to figure out how to get the security light on the HU to turn on.
