Like many I used to be all about the BASS!!! Now as I start getting more knowledge of stereo systems I've wanted to start getting a system together that really SCREMS! I want to know if I need mid bass drivers to get that super loud clear instrumental sound I'm looking for...as of now I have 1 set of mmats cxpro 6.5's with tweets and xovers ...I'm trying not to go crazy and only use the stock speaker locations no kicker panel or crazy door panels...any help on the subject would be great thanks!

I'm lost with passive and active :/
Not too much into details but like a brief overview.

Passive: Passive is when you have a crossover in between Amp and Speakers which controls what frequency goes to which speaker. You have no control on passive setup as everything comes tuned from factory. It can be 3 way/2 Way.

Benifits: Less Amp channel required, Easy install, Less footprint of wires and amps, no DSP needed, etc..

Disadvantages: No control on tune, does not sound as good as active, you might need to spend more for good components set, etc...

Active: Active is when you have one channel from amplifier going to one speaker. 3 way needs 6 Channels just for the front setup. If you want Sub and rear speakers you need 3 more amp channels or maybe 5 more if using 2 way in the rear.

Benifits: Sounds the best as you are sending exact frequencies you want that speaker to play, you control how you want to tune and change according to your liking, Satsfaction :p

Disadvantages: Need DSP if you want real benefits of this setup, need good knowledge about this stuff, time to tune (maybe fun if you really like messing with it), Multiple amps, Challenge to install if you don't have factory locations for it, Things get expensive pretty quick, etc...

e.g. If you want 2 way active with sub you need 5 separate channels vs three channels running passive.

If you are asking this question I guess Passive is best bet for you for now.

Good luck.

Thanks man I get it now ya I need another amp and a better head unit. I've started watching distance tests on line and and I'm into that a lot more...at least I already have the sub and all that stuff. Maybe a northstar and I should be good. Thanks guys
