Sound Processor Connection

I have ordered a Power Acoustik BASS10C Digital bass reconstruction processor since my stock H/U has the bass roll-off at high volumes. Causing me not to be able to push my subs anything like I want to. What I want to know is I looked at the manual online (I haven't got it received it in the mail yet.) and it says that I connect the 12 volt power to the battery, but couldn't I just connect it to the same power wire and ground that my amp is using? And does this require a 4g or lower wire to?

Thanks for the answer, I'm pretty sure I got some 16 gauge around here so that's a plus. But are you saying connect it to the same wiring of the amp, or just splice into whatever I want in the trunk to power it?
