... and that's why no one has beat the challange that... I forget his name... laid out about being able to tell the differance between amps ?

And yes, people have beat that. But then RC "claimed" there was something wrong with the test and refused to pay out.

My question is this...

Has anyone here every heard a tube amp or is this contest only for solid state?

I play bass guitar and when trying out new amps I tried a variety of setups. I ended up going with an ampeg that had a tube preamp. While testing it was obvious that tube amps sound different. An amp with tubes made the mids and highs almost glassy. People that have no idea what thier talking about can say a watt is a watt, but In my experience at the same power ratings I heard an audible difference in sound.

It's about watts, not about amps. The challenge is basically the same as saying that 1hp from a Honda 4-banger is the same as 1hp from Chevy V8. 1hp = 1hp, 1 watt = 1 watt.
