Sony vs Pioneer

I've had Sony HUs since the early '90's and they have always skipped, some more than others. I stuck it out, cause I had the changer cartridges and I LOVED the rotary remote, it's best feature by far. But I've been through quite a few Sony decks that just quit, and though they never cost that much, the SQ was never great. I'm now looking for a new brand, and I think I've found it in Eclipse. Any comments? Also, I just bought PPI amps, how do you guys think they stack up against the competition?

But of course it isnt very fancy so . . . I love eclipse headunits. I am never going to use anythign else heh.
Yeah Right man, get real, Pioneer thrives is excellent sq, and equalization.

Ummm ok I hate to do it because I am a hardcore Pioneer HU enthusiast, but the Eclipse do tend to have a SLIGHTLY higher sq factor. Is it noticeable by most human hearing? Not unless ur a fanatic which many of us are here. Also unless of course you are speaking of the HIGH end Pioneer units which are well worth the extra few hundred bucks LOL

LOL yeah well if it ***** at least it does a good follow thru and swallows to complete its act better than the rest. LOL

I am a fan of pioneer hu's, but you can look at these couple of ideas I have here for you..

1st the Panasonic CQ-DF602U 250$..ikesound.com its badass and has a bunch of faceplate graphics with 50x4 watts and mp3 and all cds cd-r cd-rw..

2nd the JVC KD-LH1000 its nice for 248$..ikesound.com I have this hu and its pretty badass...many many many options..

Take alook at those and you might find what your looking for..

I like the pioneers i have used before. I may switch from my clarion to a sony that i am going to test this weekend and upcoming week beacuse if i like it i trade the clarion for it. My clarion hates burned for some ****ed up reason. If i switched to a burned tha car has to be like stopped or going hella slow to work right, other wise CD ER6 or ER3 is showing and no sound. It rost. Oh well will let all of u know how bad the sony sux ass.

ps the sony si one of the acticve black panels, with the remotes.

I feel the same way, I loved the P1R, it was complicated as all get out, and the old premier DEH-930pr was sweet, I miis that unit alot, but I bought and Eclipse 5440 and I am not giong back to Pioneer, even though I love their head units, I am sticking with Eclipse now, unless something majorlly new and superior comes out

i agree w/ everyone who said that the pioneer is better. I have always loved their stuff and it has always worked very well. I have never had it skip. It also plays really scratched cd's w/out skipping. Matt.

Originally posted by Mark_ab Unless you're going with an older Mobile ES series Sony (which you're not) I would recommend going Pioneer. My first CD playing HU was a Sony M620 and although aesthetically pleasing, it offered little in the way of clarity, or skip protection. I know I did not recieve a lemon either. There are many documented complains of skipping, even when not moving on a b/n disc. I have no had any problems with Pioneer in the past.
i have an ES h/u and while it's a good one the skipping can drive a man to drinking( course i don't have to be driven far). also my h/u starts to distort about 1/2 volume. the internal amps aren't the greatest. i think the pioneer would be the better choice of the two. anybody want to buy a h/u?

Originally posted by Rmsanger Hey I'm looking for a new deck along with the rest of the system. But I've narrowed it down between to HU's and it's the Sony CDX-M730 and the Pioneer DEH-8400MP. The Pioneer is about 375.00 while I can get the sony for 240.00. Is it worth the extra 130.00 for the pioneer. I like both models because the flipping face. If you guys have any other suggestions let me know.
i say if you have thhis kind of money to spend, buy an ECLIPSE HU. right now i hava a Pioneer 6300, but am changing to an eclipse. Pioneer is a great deck, but I have become a firm believer in Eclipse products.
