Great to add a little bass for your car but they sound awful at high volume. My two 8" Optimus subs are louder than a 15" Sony Xplode

Sorry, my subs are just about the same loudness.

I had a pair running off a fosgate power 800. Probably about the same quality as other subs in that price range. Bear in mind that you can get them at Wal-mart, and think about that. Why not steer him to a pair of RE 12"s for $94 shipped? Even if the sonys are $17 plus shipping, theres not going to be a huge difference in price. If he wants to stick to more mainstream brands, at least have him go with some kicker compvrs or low end pioneers.
