son of a *****

haha youre right bout the maxximus. all three other inputs were hooked up, 3 powers 3 grounds. the last ground was hooked up. i go to hook in the very last power, the wire is in, im tightening the bolt. and it jus starts ****n sparking. i had been tightening the bolt for 20 secs at least. then all of a sudden this

its enough to make me want to quit car audio. an amp like this, and a stupid simple thing like this happens and the amp is ****ed. but who could fix a problem like this, as in repairs?

that happened to my mtx 92001..bought off egay...hooked up the power and ground and remote and thats it...as soon as remote went on i heard sizzlina nd the amp started smoking and the ground terminal started to melt..mother f'er was defective..threatened suit against the seller and got refund..but that **** man GL

You're POSITIVE all the wires were right correct? Remember that the power inputs on either side are MIRRORED, meaning the 12v positive connections are the ones on the inside and the grounds are on the outside. Some people may not realize that.

that i didnt know tommy. interesting. i hope he actually looked at the markings when hooking it up.

also, DSMW, i thought you said you hooked up power then ground, not ground then power... you usually want to hook up power, then ground. not the opposite.

edit: wow, what a ****ing confusing post.

yea everything was hooked up right. if it wasnt, wudnt plugging the ground into the positive mess something up? i had all other 3 hooked up, and i was plugging the power into the inside one. so i was on the right one.

my gorund is a complete circuit between my front batts and my back 4 odyssey PC2250s. but i unhooked the gorund runs going to the back batts, and also took the ground. and yes i looked at everyone about 4 times with a flashlight before plugging in. i even asked my gf about 6 times asking this is the positive right?

Was your headunit on when you were hooking it up? I have heard of amps trying to ground out through the RCA's and blow up as well.

well honestly, if it was plugging in wrong (now that i think about it) you wouldn't have enough time to be screwing down the wire before the amp blew. it usually instantaneous and you'd probably yank the **** out of the wire once you saw sparks.

yea the HU was not on, the circuit was disconnected so it couldnt have been on. and yea the wire was in the terminal for about 45 secs before it all started happening
