I'm not an audiophile, I just like to listen to a variety of music. Almost weekly, I have to drive to Reno, about 80 miles away, and music makes the trip nicer. It's a stock system in my 2001 Chrysler Town & Country. I'd like to upgrade, but will have to do that piecemeal because of me being fairly poor.
Currently, the most irritating thing about my system is the left front door speaker. I usually start my trip with that speaker (6x9 Infinity with integrated amp) not working. Usually, 30 or 40 miles down the road the speaker begins to work. It'll work the rest of the day, unless I park the car for an extended period, then the speaker does the same thing all over again.
This doesn't seem like a loose wire thing. So, I was thinking I should start my upgrades with the 2 door speakers. However, I've heard other T&C minivan owners say those speakers, with the integrated amps, also power the small dash speakers.
I'd probably be able to replace the door speakers myself, but I'd have to have a plan and some expert advice up front. I'm disabled - bad lungs - so I run out of breath after a few minutes of exertion. I don't know what's worse though, my lungs or my wallet, so I'd like to try to do some of the easier work myself and have a pro do what I can't (prob'ly the dash speakers and the CD player).
The sound when all speakers are working is pretty good. I'd like maybe a little more bass and might consider a subwoofer at a later date. I'm no kid though and ain't too interested in vibrating the windows (well, maybe a little).
Can you get me headed in the right direction? Should I start with the door speakers, or change the CD/AM/FM unit (the stock one also has a cassette player)? Or maybe you need me to answer some other questions first.
Thanks for any guidance.
