something wrong with subs

i have 2 subwoofers in my car and have had them for a year now. they worked great until now. one day they completely went out so i took them back to Best Buy (where i had them installed) and they fixed the problem. now i have a new problem just a few days later...the subs are coming in and out. what i mean is that they will be performing at what they should be and then all of a sudden in the middle of a song, they will lose about 75% of the bass. this happens to every song and they go in and out constantly.

what could be wrong and is there a simple way to fix it? idk their specs but i do know that the amp can handle the subs. i dont want to take my car back just yet because it takes them a couple of hours and i have a job and dont have the time during my day.

Subs: 2 MTX Audio Thunder 4500 subs and a link for all the specs: http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/MTX-Thunder-10-Subwoofer-T451004/sem/rpsm/oid/147569/catOid/-13093/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do

Amp: Rockford Fosgate Punch P400-2

thanks

found your problem

Check that all the wires are okay, and check the ground. Protection mode is a possibility.
i think the guys at Bestbuy would have noticed if the wires were connected wrong, but how do i know if the amp is in protection mode?

Is the amp getting hot? And also, there should be some sort of protect light on the amp, whenever the bass cuts out, see if a new light comes up.

i dont think the protect light comes on. just the power light comes on but it used to come on

the ground cable was only about half way in so i plugged it in all the way and i will play it tomorrow on my way to work and get back to you guys to see if this fixes it. thanks to everyone that posted.

Glad you found your problem, I because of my lazyness did a half *** ground and later had to take all my stuff out to re do it. Make sure you scrape the area drill a hole and put a nut under the car so that it gets real tight. GOOD LUCK
