Car: Chevy Cavalier 2001

Setup: Alpine Type r sub, alpine amp, 1.0 Cap

I mounted my amp to the back seat, and the drill touched a screw on the amp and sparked, the fuse at the battery is in tact, i changed the fuses on the amp and i don't know what else it could be. Car started whining, so i unhooked the amp and now the alternator doesn't whine anymore.

first off get rid of that cap, they are useless, secondly we need a bit more detail, which screw did it touch?but the alt wine is a ground loop issue, which means you have a grounding problem.

yeah, that doesn't really make a lot of sense. It had to have touched more than just a screw. I would assume you were drilling through metal of the amp mounting foot or the seat and the bit touched the + terminal of the amp. Just touching a screw with the drill won't cause an arc. you had to have touched a ground and a positive source at the same time to get an arc.

does the amp power on?

check voltage with a meter at the amp.

then turn the key on and check the voltage of the remote terminal on the amp as well.
