Something I learned today

One of my professors told us something very interesting today. The government is actually giving tax breaks to those countries who import ethanol gas and better yet, the government subsidizes(give them extra money) farmers NOT to grow corn. This is all in the sake of keeping ethanol prices up. FYI for those who dont know, ethanol is cheaper by quantity but it does not get you as good mileage. So right now, the ethanol and gas prices are about equal. So the government is effectively keeping gas and ethanol prices up by not allowing ethanol become cheaper. And the idea behind that is that Ethanol and Gasolina and substitute products. If the price of one product goes down, more people will begin to use this one over the other. This would be gasoline. This would effectively in turn reduce the demand for gas. Reduction in demand for gasoline would mean a lower in price. Thus, the government is screwing us over.

my grandpa would love that as he has been a farmer for 50years. it's just too bad that the reason for corn production being down is because of a very long drought.

Yeah, according to my teacher, the whole point of this is so that the government can get its cut off of oil being imported. If we became totally independent on ethanol, the government would lose a TREMENDOUS amount of money.

Ethanol isn't going to happen anytime soon on a large scale.

Which is why I'm going the diesel route eventually //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

you are right. but farmers are being subsidized because yields are half what they normally are. 3 years ago most farmers in the midwest lost all their crops due to drought, and had to be subsidized to keep them all from going bankrupt.

The only real problem with diesel is its enviromental impact. Other than that, diesel would be perfect. BUT, I dont give a shit about the enviroment. Ill be dead before it means anything to me or my kids even. Diesels are even good for making lots of horsepower and torque. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif funny cars and most dragsters are diesel i do believe

we should be devoting resources on the scale of the Manahatten project to get us off of the fossil fuel tit. but we won't and someone should be shot.
Well, right now, the government is trying to find a fuel sorce that they can control. So far, almost all alternate fuel sorces can be privatized which means very little money for Big Brother.
