Sup. Never posted here before. Looks like a great site. I looked all over the net till I found here. Still have a few questions I cant find the answers to. I dont know a great deal but what I want to do is run a two channel amp 125RMS per channel at 4 Ohm with a sub on each channel. I am thinking of going with 4 Ohm SVC subs or Dual VC subs 4 Ohms each coil. I'm not sure which is the better setup.

My understanding is I can go with the DVC subs and drop down to 2 Ohms for more power or up to 8 Ohms for less. I like the 2 Ohm idea but do not know if it will work on a 2 channel amp in this way. I've looked on the JL page and saw diagrams for dropping down two 2 Ohms (or whatecver you want)with a

DVC Sub(s) but all the diagarms look like they are for Single Channel Amps.

I am not wanting to bridge my amp but run on sub on each channel. SVC or DVC. will the DVC one on each channel at 2 ohm work. Amp is supposed to be 2 ohm Stable. Would this setup still be considered 2 ohm.

Also I know why 2 ohm is better but I dont know what the Drawbacks are. More Distortion? ECT.

Hope I asked my questions right and thanks for any thoughts or help. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/imdaman.gif.bc6c552e19aa4ad8c47461144f40eb1a.gif

ANEONRIDER.

The amp is a Pioneer GM-5000T. I know probably not the best in the world but on a tight budget. The subs are still open. Leaningn towards Pioneer Subs TS-W305DVC also to keep it all the same Manufacture. Thats if I go with the DVC Subs. Would use TS-W305C if I use the SVC subs.

Old School.

Are you saying that If I used the 2 DVC subs and bridged the amp, I could get back to the 4 ohm setup(or a 1 ohm setup). What would be the advantage of briding the amp and going back to 4 ohm instead of running 2 channels and 2 SVC subs for 4 ohms This way. If I want to run 4 Ohm I Know how to do that by buying SVC subs at 4 Ohm. If I bought DVC subs I can Bridge the amp And get 4 or 1 Ohm. or not bridge the Amp and get 2 or 8 Ohm. Is That correct? . thanks much for your help.

I'm Thinking of using 2 ohms with a DVC sub on each Channel. Would this work.?

Is each channel of the amp separate running at 2 ohms this way or does running each channel at two ohms do something crazy like drop total amp down to 1 ohm?

Thanks all for the help. This is kind of complicated but fun.

Hey dudes, Me again.

Was looking at the wiring options on the sticcky at the top of the page on this forum and what I want to do is the third Box down, One of these on each channel of the Amp (sorry, I dont know how to post a click on thingy to get to to the sticky page). Would that be acceptable? One of these on each Channel. Its the two channel thing that is cofusing me. Does two channels make any differance.

if you use both channels with two 4ohm DVC subs you would have each channel at 2 ohm stereo. if you want your subs in stereo that is a preferance .. most folks like there subs in mono. some say they have problems with one sub being louder than the other in stereo wiring.

my preferance is mono so in your case i would do a few things

one if i had an amp that was 1 ohm stable and my subs could handle the power i would run my subs in paralell and get a 1 ohm mono load off the amp

if i had an amp that is not 1 ohm stable i would wire my 4ohm DVC subs in series and get a 4 ohm load.

or

you can get 2 subs that are 2 ohm DVC wire them in series and run 2 ohm mono

the choice is realy up to you whther you want your subs in stereo or mono

Thanks for the heads up on the mono vs. stereo thing. I wasn't aware of that. Mabey better to go with Mono then. Just run the + of one channel to the - of the other to bridge the Amp? Most done this way?

Anybody any other suggesttions?

You need to make sure your amp is bridgable prior to hooking it up. Seeing it is a 2 channel amp you will run a + on one channel and a - on the other. Depending on the amp determins which channel is + and which is -.

You do not need to keep the same manufaturer for your subs. It will not make difference in the way it sounds. Not to mention if you want to up grade your amp down the road you may be limited on watts with those subs. There are much better subs on the market for about the same if not cheaper price.

Look through some of the SUBWOOFER threads and listen to what people like. RMS vs sound quality. Pioneer is not known for making real good subs that last very long. Not to mention they are do not have as stiff of a cone as other makers. The stiffer the cone the less flex which means more air movement. This will make a big difference in a ported enclosure.

Sup dudes,

Studied alot of this last night and checked the amp. Amp can be bridged but Amp says not to bridge and run parallel 4 ohm (or Lower) subs at the same time. So I guess if I go with the 2 DVC subs, I can run 2 ohms stereo or bridge the amp and run 4 ohm mono. Most people would go with the 4 Ohm Mono? I can of figured going with the 2 ohm stereo for more power but what do I know. It makes sence that one sub in stereo would be louder than the other sence more bass is usually play out of on channel than the other but does the increase in power as long as the subs will take it make up for this drawback?

Also I looked for comparitive subs on other threads but dont know enough to make a good decision. I can get Two of these Pioneer Subs (TS-W305DVC 400W RMS) for About $115. It seems so darn cheap for what they are as Summit Racing has the same Subs for $119 each and the pioneer website lists them at $130 M.S.R.P. each. I know nobody would want to pay M.S.R.P. but any Ideas what would be better in that price range of $115 for two. Also I'm likely going to use sealed boxes at least for now.

Thanks again guys. With your help this budget setup might actually ROCK! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/scared.gif.f134e57c6c93ccd0f15aa5ac32c7d4a0.gif

all I can say is you get what you pay for. Are the speakers you are looking at refurbished, or brand new? Some of these companies sell refurbished speakers at discounted prices, and again I would rather buy a new speaker than a refurbished one.

Yeah thats right about manual Says not to bridge while running 2 ohms. I was thinking about running 2 ohms stereo or bridge the amp and run 4 ohms mono.

If it was me, and this is just my own personal opinion, I would run that amp @ 4 ohm mono and find some subs to hold you over. Than I would start saving my pennies for a good 1 ohm stable amp and some good subs.... or you can use the money that you where going to buy the subs with add some to it and get a good amp and save for some good subs, but I know how it is wanting to put some jams in the car quick.. Just remember you will want to upgrade and if you’re tight on cash like most of us here that means you will have to wait and just dream hehehe

best of luck to ya

Mat
