Some big system questions. Pros and Cons

Ok I've been a mild car audio enthusiast for several years, I am actually into studio audio alot, gone to school for it and everything. but car audio is ALOT different so I just wanted to ask a few questions about my system I'm planning.

First off: i know what I'm building here is ridiculous and over the board for just what I am doing. but that's how I usually handle everything.

What I plan on doing is getting a Kicker solo x 18 Inch sub. with a 5,000/10,000 wattage rating. and there are three types available.

Dual 1 ohm = .5 ohms (in parallel) 1 ohm (in series)

Dual 2 ohm = 1 ohm (in parallel) 2 ohms (in series)

dual 4 ohm = 2 ohm (in parallel) 4 ohms (in series)

So here is my question, I can't decide what type of amp to get.

Should I get a mono amp and wire it in series and match up the impedance that way or should I go in parallel and do it that way.

OR should I get a 2 channel amp and just wire two channels to the dual voice coils?

Basically I know how to match up the impedances I just want to know the advantages and/or disadvantages to each scenario. and maybe any suggestions on what amp to get. (I am always up to suggestion, I'm here to learn not be called stupid)

And on a side note, I've never had a system even close to this big so I know I will need to mod my battery and alternator choices. so once again where should I go to get these parts and what's a good brand. Thank you for any and all feedback

You are confused on series/parallel. Series doubles, parallel halves, not the other way around.

As for an amp, get a mono amp. Dont wire up each coil to their own channel on a 2 channel amp...not a good idea.

As for amp choices, alts, batts, etc...use the search feature. This has been covered countless times and you will learn a lot by reading up on it.

get u a kicker warhorse //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
dont waste your $ on this one

its a power house but way to much money

what are your goals?

just plain loud

or

loud but able to listen to music also

Ahhh, yes my mistake. Should've known. So which way should I go with it. is it better to say get a dual 4-ohm and run it parallel down to 2 ohms or get a dual 1 ohm and series it UP to 2 ohms. or does it not matter?

I am a true audiophile I like great sound. but I still want the ability to be heard 2 miles away!!! so I guess I would like to say both. and yes I realize your not going to be able to have both simultaneously. So all in all I would like to have the ability to listen to good quality but have the ability to crank it!

If I get something that is lesser than this warhorse. then what do I get, i've never heard of anything this big for cheaper, and if I do get something less like 3000 or 4000 watts obviously I'm not going to push the sub as much as possible but even with that fact will I be satisfied with the volume and/or quality powering it with a lesser amp????

I would get the lowest rated ohm rating possible and wire in series. ex .5dvc wired to series = 1ohm. That way you can save money on the amp and get the increased BL (motor strength) that comes with wiring a sub in series.

The lowest this speaker comes in is a 1 ohm dual, so in series would be 2 ohms.

what if I got the 2 ohm dual and wired in parallel equaling 1 ohm?? would this give the same effect or not at all?

I also found some pretty cheap amps that will give me 3200 watts RMS at 1 ohm stability. I know this isn't the 5000 rms and 10,000 peak of the speaker but its close and that amp i found is only $289. which is a hell of alot cheaper than 6000 dollars.

So if I took that amp and ran the 2ohm dual version of the sub in parallel down to 1 ohm would this give me a pretty good setup? (at least for the time being while i can upgrade the amp later on.)

stfu

and there are other options for the sub

but if you plan on running one and only of these subs EVER

get the dual 2 wire in parallel to 1 ohm on a mono channel amp end of story.

how much to you plan to pay for this 1 sub? i will suggest others

I can get this one sub for $650-$800 brand new I figured it was definitely the most bang for the buck, spl wise, and I've heard that they sound decent for quality too.

but I am still open to better suggestions. if you have any it'll be greatly appreciated.

wow 800 bucks! how much room do u have?
money room or physical room???

Money

I didn't want to spend more than 2 grand on the whole system, if i did I would def. have to build it over time.

Physical

Mustang.... (umm... take it from there) another words, not much. I was going to build a custom box myself. (used to work at home depot in the lumber section, I'm pretty handy with some MDF and a couple of screws.)
