Ok I've been a mild car audio enthusiast for several years, I am actually into studio audio alot, gone to school for it and everything. but car audio is ALOT different so I just wanted to ask a few questions about my system I'm planning.
First off: i know what I'm building here is ridiculous and over the board for just what I am doing. but that's how I usually handle everything.
What I plan on doing is getting a Kicker solo x 18 Inch sub. with a 5,000/10,000 wattage rating. and there are three types available.
Dual 1 ohm = .5 ohms (in parallel) 1 ohm (in series)
Dual 2 ohm = 1 ohm (in parallel) 2 ohms (in series)
dual 4 ohm = 2 ohm (in parallel) 4 ohms (in series)
So here is my question, I can't decide what type of amp to get.
Should I get a mono amp and wire it in series and match up the impedance that way or should I go in parallel and do it that way.
OR should I get a 2 channel amp and just wire two channels to the dual voice coils?
Basically I know how to match up the impedances I just want to know the advantages and/or disadvantages to each scenario. and maybe any suggestions on what amp to get. (I am always up to suggestion, I'm here to learn not be called stupid)
And on a side note, I've never had a system even close to this big so I know I will need to mod my battery and alternator choices. so once again where should I go to get these parts and what's a good brand. Thank you for any and all feedback
