hey guys. as you all know by now i have my DEI 1100d, and im about to hook it to my tempest.

however, just before i took it all out i was having a small problem where it was going into protection mode... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif

i didnt think it was a big deal- i just think it went into thermal shutdown because i was 'testing' late night tip... and my friend turned it up past my volume that was set to the gains...

so i left it off to cool down, and the next day it worked fine.

so i get my tempest, i take out the amp. i make a box, i put it all in the car, and now whenever i turn the amp on, it blows the fuse (it fried a 100amp AGU fuse... my god)

i know this amp will NEVER draw 100amps. and my fuse wont pop unless the 4awg wire is hooked to the amp and the car is turned on (i did some trial and error with this and a few different sized fuses)

so my question is this - to all those electronics geniouses out there - what can be wrong with an amp that will short it out to the point it will draw max amperage?

i know its been posted a thousand times, but where can i send my amp to get it fixed. it was a refurb DEI (long time ago, ran fine forever until this kid blasted it past its limits, and i mean WAY past its limit... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/bawling.gif.6287aa5d1d447c8af063fc9466e822ef.gif)

would i be better off just getting a new one? im not really in the mood to purchase another amp. but it would need to be at least 800w x1 @ 4ohms...

any ideas? im pretty much stuck... im about to buy a circut breaker so that i dont keep blowing fuses. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

but for all you questioning DEI, this amp has ran solid forever. my friend just pushed it way past clipping and i dont really know what the hell happened. the insides look fine - i dont smell any burnt stuff. i think ill end up taking the heatsinks off the mosfets to see if any of those are toasted.

wish me luck, help me out?

Nope, I dunno that yo have a DEI 1100d. :p
lol jerk //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

im gonna drop my amp off at a local shop and get it tested for $10 and prolly fix it myself..

i hooked up my PPI PC1400 (500w x1@4ohms - mono amp) to my tempest in a 4cube box (dosnt fit in my trunk) ill take pictures tomrrow or somthing...

ill open my amp and take pictures to post i think... one or two of the mosfets has the flux burned it looks (the brown film over the solder points showing ya know)

so ill take pictures and see if i cant get the mosfets from http://www.allelectronics.com //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

any help after the pictures would be much help.

I just got my refurbed directed 1100d today but I can't install it until spring time. Actually i haven't even seen it yet since it was sent to my house and im away at school. I'll probably have it tested at an audio shop just to make sure everything is working right. I'll make sure no one pushes it beyond its limit.

you need 800 @ 4ohms? I thought those directeds only put out ~450@4ohms like the Viper I have for sale. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

let me give the amp one more test. it *might* not be blown i think i just wired the sub too fast in the darkness at 11pm outside, and i ended up re-doing it. might have just been hooked up to some rediclious impedance that the amp didnt like.

give me a few days and ill see.

by the way. does anyone know what the MECHANICAL RMS would be for a 4'^3@30(or lower) box would put it at?

I dunno about what it would be but when I had it hooked up to the viper it was just about right, I could make it reach its mechanical limits but it wasnt being over powered. I would assume give it around 600, but 150 extra watts isnt gonna do much for ya mang.
