am a mod.
hey guys. as you all know by now i have my DEI 1100d, and im about to hook it to my tempest.
however, just before i took it all out i was having a small problem where it was going into protection mode... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif
i didnt think it was a big deal- i just think it went into thermal shutdown because i was 'testing' late night tip... and my friend turned it up past my volume that was set to the gains...
so i left it off to cool down, and the next day it worked fine.
so i get my tempest, i take out the amp. i make a box, i put it all in the car, and now whenever i turn the amp on, it blows the fuse (it fried a 100amp AGU fuse... my god)
i know this amp will NEVER draw 100amps. and my fuse wont pop unless the 4awg wire is hooked to the amp and the car is turned on (i did some trial and error with this and a few different sized fuses)
so my question is this - to all those electronics geniouses out there - what can be wrong with an amp that will short it out to the point it will draw max amperage?
i know its been posted a thousand times, but where can i send my amp to get it fixed. it was a refurb DEI (long time ago, ran fine forever until this kid blasted it past its limits, and i mean WAY past its limit... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/bawling.gif.6287aa5d1d447c8af063fc9466e822ef.gif)
would i be better off just getting a new one? im not really in the mood to purchase another amp. but it would need to be at least 800w x1 @ 4ohms...
any ideas? im pretty much stuck... im about to buy a circut breaker so that i dont keep blowing fuses. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif
but for all you questioning DEI, this amp has ran solid forever. my friend just pushed it way past clipping and i dont really know what the hell happened. the insides look fine - i dont smell any burnt stuff. i think ill end up taking the heatsinks off the mosfets to see if any of those are toasted.
wish me luck, help me out?
