Solo X 18" or MT 18"

i can get a solo x for 600. brand new. was put up as a display. never seen wattage.

i know more competitors bringing home trophies with solo x's and dd's over mt's. not dogging the mt, it's bringing home it's share. but i know of a astro van with a pair of 15" mt's and 8kw+ with a wall getting killed (over 3db difference right now) by a pair of 12" solo x's and the same power in a street explorer....and both definitely know what the hell they are doing....(just an example..not meant to infer anything.)

anyway...it's really a toss up. i run a solo x 18 in my truck off just a single 2500d (going to be changing real soon) and it's actually a nice sub. the mt has lots of potential, jsut as the solo x, but it is cheaper (not in quality).

but it's kinda cool to see ppl's jaws drop when they look in the truck and see that square...

I couldn't agree more when it comes to the performance aspect. The Solo X and DD Audio's are bad mamajamas!! The only thing I disagree with is the stinking pricing. They're just too high in cost. I looked into getting the SOLO X 18 when I was evaluating 18's, but I just didn't want to pay that much for one of those when I could get virtually identical performance from an MT.

In my perusing on Termpro I have seen the same thing that you stated. There are several competitors that began using MT's when they came out, but switched back to DD Audio and Solo X's when their numbers just weren't the same. If you do an MT right you should be more than happy with the results, I know I am.

I would imagine they are both capable of great numbers.

The MT is bringing home more than 'its share' of SPL trophies still. Wow RE sure isn't getting its props around here anymore, even the ones it deserves. lol

don't get me wrong. Scottie is doing some amazing things with the MT's. Just don't want the thread starter to rule out the Solo X just hearing that the MT's are doing well.

To the thread starter. When doing an SPL vehicle teh best thing you can do is Test, test, and more testing anyone on this forum that competes can tell you that. Buy both woofers and get them both installed the way you think they should be. Start Mic'in them and testing more. Then you can decide what woofer you will really actually use. Then sell teh used one on here ;P

i have money, dont get me wrong, just not enough to buy both and then do countless hours of testing. I can buy one or the other and then do hours of testing but not both. Sucks being 17 years old wanting to compete
