I have a 1999 honda CRV

http://www.bodyshopzone.com/archives/trim/door_panels/Honda/CRV_1998/dphcrv02a_98_honda_crv.jpg

There is an example of what my door looks like. There is potential for a tweeter at the top close to the mirror I figure.

I'd like to use (or at least start with) the stuff I have laying around to keep costs down.

I've got a head unit already. Also a four channel alpine amp that I figure I'll drive the speakers with (50w a channel I believe). Also have a 10" massive sub, and 300w mtx amp.

The front and back speakers are all 6.5" stock speakers right now and the stock head unit, and they are getting the hook.

I think I'd like to get component speakers but I'm hesitant spend the extra cash just to point a tweeter at my brain and have the mid at my feet. Better then nothing?

I'd like to spend less then $225 for the front speakers (maybe just take out the ones in the back because I don't typically have people back there). Suggestions welcome.

The other thing that I've been turning over in my mind is the sound quality...So thinking out loud here...

Clearly doors are a horrible speaker cabinets so how much is it worth trying to get full sound out of the font speakers? If I compare it to my towers at home (6.5" driver with a tweeter) which are capable of a full range, door speakers seem to fall short every time. Perhaps I've just listened to some crappy setups. What are some options to get half descent sound quality? I'm not looking for the anything out of the world, just something that doesn't sound like total garbage.

I've got a background...A degree and a diploma in electronics and electrical so I'm not scared of getting my hands dirty, just scared of spending money on crap components. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Musically...You can't pin me down...I'll be listening to everything.

Thanks

Jon

PS please let me know what other info I can share.

First thing you need is an SQ head unit and an amp.

Its not the speaker's fault most of the times, its the stock head unit providing you with only 3-5 watts per speaker. Most stock speakers come alive with proper processing and power. Power isnt really there to make things louder, it plays a bigger role in your clarity, detail and "fullness" along with making the music not distorted.

A proper head unit decodes all the digital signal and turns it into an audio signal. The core and brain of your system. Wheter or not the system sounds good solely depends on your processing aka head unit or DSP(digital sound processor $$$$)

A simple speaker swap without doing these steps along with an amplifier will result in garbage sound most of the times over stock speakers which are optimized for your doors with stock baffles and seals along with being EQ'd specifically for your head unit. (another reason to swap the head unit. Stock factory EQ curve ***** and will destroy SQ for aftermarket speakers)

The head unit I was planning on using is a eonon D1305...Sort of strange I know. I remember seeing someone on this forum a long time ago talk about them. I figured I'd try it out.

The power to the front speakers is a KAC-646X. Something I had sitting around. 50 watts to 4 channels. I'll order some sound deadening when I get the speakers. Any advice on some a pair? I know some guys are into buying drivers from madisound and making up there own component systems.

Thanks
