Well, today was the big day.

I took the GRE and got an 1120 or 1140 (I fogot which). The required score is an 1100 so I am good. I either got a 650 or 670 on the quant and a 470 on the verbal.

The test is exactly like that on the powerprep software (which is free). I bought the Kaplan book. I wouldn't say it helped but @ ~$20, the extra practice tests and pratice questions most certainly didn't hurt. It gives you great strategies and insight into the problems. I got about 1140-1170 on the powerpreps, I got ~940 on the kaplan fwiw.

The writing part was not that difficult although my word choice was far too casual. I think I did between 4.5 - 5. Not bad, but not great either.

My Letters of reccomendation come from a professor, a state legislator, and one of my supervisors.

It looks like I am probably going to get in. The GRE was the last big step.

If you too are planning on taking the GRE and have any questions, comments, etc. I can help. Even though the test is for graduating college students, I think I was better prepared exiting high school. I found the ACT far for difficult.

The problem with the GRE is stamina and time. You get one break in between the writing portion and the verbal/quant. Then you only get ~1 minute per question on each one. I had to guess at the last quant question. I think I trailed off in the verbal because I got tired.

The test is one of the computer adaptive types. Meaning the questions get harder the more you get correct. And some questions aren't even graded, but used for future tests.

If you plan to study, the key is think of strategies of how to attack each question. For instance, rules for simplyfing polynomials.

As for the verbal, I had no idea what some of those words are. I don't think there is anyone with that strong of a vocabulary.

Who really cares?
See below. Obviously, if you do not care themn (a) this thread wasn't for you and (b) there was no need for you to reply.

i do too.
are you only applying to one program?
Yes. Only one program. This is one of those Las Vegas weddings kind of decisions. Except it was a couple months.

The real deal for me is the MBA. My strategy is to do well in the PhD program to assist me in getting into a top20 MBA program.
