So....you want to get into graduate school?

See below. Obviously, if you do not care themn (a) this thread wasn't for you and (b) there was no need for you to reply.

Yes. Only one program. This is one of those Las Vegas weddings kind of decisions. Except it was a couple months.

The real deal for me is the MBA. My strategy is to do well in the PhD program to assist me in getting into a top20 MBA program.

True.

thats right its where you got your undergrad right?

Alright FLIP! so they just tell you your scores right there? Doesnt take weeks of anticipation?
They tell you the scores but not your % or what you got wrong or anything.

At the end you have the option to submit or not submit your scores.

They do not tell you your writing score, but for the program I was applying for it doesn't matter.

It is Harvard or anything. What will probably end up happening is I will get a job offer at another school to be an assistant professor. They start out in the upper 40s but again not at a great school.

However $40k is a nice sum of money for teaching. I mean you put in 25 hours per week for 8 mos and make $40k. There is no coming in a 6am or BS like that.

Yes. My LoAs highly wrote good letters. I figured they would. Although everythings looks good to go, there are a few odds and ends I need to tie up.

I am excited in a way, but not really either. I look forward to the next 4 years.

what were the topic choices for the essay portion?
I forget the other option, but I chose : (paraphrased)

Some people think problems today are more complex and challenging than those of our predecssors. With increases in experience and knoweldge, these ideas are refuted.

I agreed with the statement, quoted albert einstein, and basically argued it was an issue of perspective. That today's world is only more complex because we do not have the tools to solve them, not because they are inherently more complex.

The antoynms was less difficult than the practice exam, the anologies and sentence completion, more difficult.

You going to take the GA position?
The director didn't really mention it after seeing my score. I think I disappointed him. I think he has a better picture of me though. My abilities as a student somewhat mask my other "problems".

In the classroom, I understand the perspective in which the question is being asked as I understand the professors opionions and commentary, ie I give the answer he is looking for. On standardized tests, I do not know anything about the perspective of the question maker, therefore it is much more difficult to give an answer.

How can I help?

1) I want to get my PhD in economics

2) I am going to a local school to do this.

3) You have to get an 1100 on the GRE to get into the school

4) I got an 1120/1140 on the GRE so I am good

5) I am pretty confident I will be admitted

GRE is not that difficult, but it most certainly isn't easy

Im a little anxious.. I graduated in december, and Im still not sure about going any further.. problem is, I know itll become more and more difficult the longer I wait

I got my bs in soc and realized Id prefer the social work aspect of it more...

It will take longer to get a MSW if you dont have a BSW...an extra year iirc.

Be sure to remember that some schools will require a subject GRE for admission. This is far less common, but the tests are far more difficult and require a different route of preparation.

So anyone looking to go to grad school, be sure to find out what the school requires.

also:

GRE gives you a raw score on the spot with the computerized program...and the questions actually change and get more difficult as you answer correctly.

The MCAT, oh lord....had to wait 2 months for my score. Talk about anticipation. That is changing now too though, as I was the last paper version...the computer tests I guess are about a 2-3 week turn around now.
