so what makes SQ..SQ?

[n00bfight]So You mean to tell me that in SQ competition, reference material is run through an analyzer that records every nuance, down to 1/3 octave resolution (or better hopefully). Then, for each "competitor run" the same analyization system is used on their vehicle? from the listeners position? Then the two bits of outcome are overlayed, and whomever / whichever competitor's output most closely matches that of the source material... wins?

[/n00bfight]

Now, that very well could be the case, but I have never even heard an inkling of that, so I am curious.

I still love You though
Strictly speaking; there should still be no personal preference in the SQ judging. Either the vehicle reproduces the material accurately, or it doesn't in some way or another. If it doesn't reproduce it accurately, then it is docked points. Now, human's aren't perfect and we've yet to create a machine to determine sonic accuracy....I'm sure they (the judges) let some bias slip through.

But, likewise; if it were strictly an SQ competition, why would they measure SPL aswell?? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

sq and high fidelity are different, basically in an sq comp they have a cd that comes with a little book explaining what to look for in a set up. everything from "breathy voices" to loud symbol crashes and in alot of the music they record with mono michrophones so each insterment has a defined stage area. if an insterment doesnt appear where the book says you get docked as well. high fidelity is the attempt to be as accurate as posible aka life like.

SQ, as a term is not subjective. Now how a judge defines your car, is.

squeak and Jack Frost are both right....

if you plan to have an USACi or IASCA judge, judge your car...be read...but most real SQ cars with a .707 SQ alignment, sound like poop, IMHO...

but how I like it will differ than you do..that is subjective, to us both //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Yeah. I never said SQ competitions were the end all be all of what determines sound quality (though, given the name, you'd think it would be). Which is why I never actually mentioned SQ competitions till you brought it up //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif
