i jumped ahead, so i don't know if it's been said. they are lucky they didn't get in the house. here, if someone that i don't know comes in the house, they get shot. we don't live in a area with a bunch of "gangsta wannabe's" so anyone that comes probaly isn't just coming in to steal a tv.

I do not know about the laws governing such actions in your locale but here in Louisiana the laws are written in such a fashion that legally a very dim view is given to such actions that might make a homeowner (or dweller for that matter) feel in fear for their life. Consequently in our state lethal force being used against someone trespassing on private property doing anything that could be viewed as an attempt to access an inhabited dwelling is both legally and morally acceptable 'round these parts.

Should you ever find yourself in a real-life situation wherein you are forced to make the choice of taking someone's life or allowing them to take yours then come and give your opinions on how you think someone else might react under like circumstances. Who is to say that theft of the window A/C unit was their only motivation? Perhaps the actual case is that they planned on removing it from the window to create an easy access point for the interior of the dwelling in which is was installed.

Is that likely the case? Probably not.

It is even remotely possible? Absolutely.
