So my installer used 20 gauge speaker wire.....

What happened was that you trusted them with your shit, before looking at their other installs, it happens next time you will know better. Usually if its a sorry *** shop which is just trying to make a dollar and don't care for quality then thats what you are going to get. I would probalbly go complain but I doudt that will be any help.

I would have gave them a roll of some good shit. Last install I had done, i had a roll of that 16 ga Monster, and they used that. I'm gonna get a 100 foot roll of that 12 ga Knu for my next build.

But to answer your question I don't think that the wire is bottlenecking your sound.

What kind of equipment is it?

Yup thats the best to do take your own wire or amp kit, I don't think that wire is not a problem. Sometimes you have to stick around while they are doing the install and get in their faces if they aren't doing the way you like and let them know if you have the balls.

PDX 4.100

Kenwood DDX712

JL Components & Coaxials

M850 soon to be AQ2200D w/ 2 12" type r

not shitty components my any means

it honestly might be 24 gauge

I was there the entire day 9 hours......i couldnt get any closer because of "insurance" reasons

amp was mounted under passenger seat and did not notice wire until a week later

gains were set all incorrectly as well!

now should I pay for the wire of have them use theirs?

I payed 130 for the 4 speakers to be used w/o purchasing wire....they charged me extra for the shit they used

I payed 150 for the amp to be wired. They used 1/0 ga power wire but didnt use the 1/0 ga ground wire and they didnt return it to me!!

What is the correct gauge? 14?

Thanks!

But more than likely, if you touched anything, you voided the warranty. You could order you some 14 or 12 ga knu and rewire it yourself.

Any pix of the install and wire?

Wire size for speakers is a whole other thread.........lol. Anything bigger than factory I say, but I'm going 14 or 12. Just because.

Amex will be on my side for sure. The installers wont like that
What is amex? well if you have to but if its just the wire that you don't like then I doubt that a good reason to withold payment, if there a cool shop then taking your own wire and asking them to do it with that then that should be enogh to remove any doubts.

here is a pic of the shit they used...you can see it all comes out of one thicker wire....

next to my expensive Knu wiring it looks like dental floss
