SO much for the type r/TCAB hype. blew sub and components

What he means is that after impedence rise and voltage, you're NOT getting the rated power.
For instance, i had a pair of nine.1s strapped to my type-r 10", wired to a 1 ohm load, thus .5 ohm per amp. This SHOULD do a RATED 2000+ watts RMS, but because of my impedence rise i was getting a grand total of 550 RMS from the PAIR.
thats why i said about 1200 watts instead if the 1500-1800. this amp is also modded

the amp does 1500+ at 2 ihms, so if it had impedence rise, i would think 1200 is a good estimate. And the one guy thought that my friend had a hifonics bx1500d instead of the rockford bd1500, which puts out way more power. he refered to it as "brutus" in his post

yes it does . the rockford bd1500 is a great amp. what makes you think it does not put out 1500 at 2 ohms
because you possibly don't have a 2 ohm load? I "supposedly" had a 1 ohm load going to my nine.1's, it turned out to be a 6 ohm load during a burp:crazy:

There's no way to tell what power you are getting until you clamp the amp and find out for sure.

FYI, if the amp is modded, shouldn't it be ran at a lower ohm load? That's the purpose of a modded amp.

Just like how a "modded" MTX 81000d can be ran at 1 ohm and lower, when a normal one is rated for 2 ohm use.

ok, so it's modded..... modded to run at a lower impedence and a higher voltage. if you haven't wired it down or fed it higher voltage, all you have is a bd1500;)

But when people read this thread, they are going to assume the type-r subwoofer, not the components. Thats what i was trying to state.
Also, thats some hefty power for a user such as yourself. In all honesty, i don't think anyone with the right experience/knowledge should use more than 800-1000 RMS for a 12" type-r, slightly less for the 10", and slightly more for the 15"

They are not magical "i'll take whatever you can give me, no matter what" subs.

Also, i'm a bit suspicious about your "used" sub and how it locked up instantly. I've rarely seen a sub lock up instantly, i'm thinking you got a dud speaker. Hell, most subs last a couple seconds plugged into a wall socket, let alone to an amp.
hey

if you got distortion with 550rms, it is not the sub, it is your amp or either the sub is bottoming out because of your enclosure. they were not distorted with 1200-1500 rms.

Then you dont know what distortion is. If you are running an amp twice the power to the sub then it has to be distorting some. Get real bud!

Mine may be because of my box being sealed, I dont know. I know it is a little though, not much.

i run that every day, just got a little carried away with lil jon:evil: oh well, ive got another:)

Eh, it happens... and the thread should have just ended here - lol.

When you run alot of power to a woof, you have to show some restraint... sometimes its hard when your really bumpin!

just to show everyone what the original poster said.
it boils down to:

1) sub blew without distortion or clipping.

2) Type R tweeters blew too.

3) tcab boxes aren't special-- they're just boxes, not vehicle specific, just a box that the maker found works well for the sub.

and thus, Type R subs and components ****, and tcab boxes aren't special either.

proof posted:

none. just statements like "1200 watts to sub, 80 watts to components, and no distortion."
What was misunderstood is that there are certain layouts for different vehicle types, and I design within those layouts. There are also a few rules of thumb I follow for each vehicle as far as box size/tuning. Tuning is not only controlled by the port size/length and box size... but also the coating on the interior of the box, and the interior angles. The orientation of the box also effects "tuning". What works when and where... well, thats top secret info //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

People ask what is so "special" about the boxes... nothing is all that spectacular, they are just RIGHT for the application. I don't want to make some sort of a gimmick box, unless it outperformed the current layouts/designs.

Btw, I did get your point... but quoting this post allowed me to reply to a number of posts in this thread at one time.

Distortion is ALWAYS present, if you want to be technical.

How much... now that varies //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

With the box and woof here, the rise will be to approx 4.5 ohms... actual power, not sure. People have blown higher power handling woofs with less //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

Edited to remove discretion hinting at a pro-Type R bias that Spkrman said he didn't have. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Of course I'm pro type R... its cheap and loud //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif. You must remember... nobody gave the R a second look before I started running them. "bias" was never part of my decision to run them... I was just testing random cheap woofs, and then the R came along.

I also happen to be very familiar with the woofers, so I can pretty accurately predict what they will do in certain situations.
