SO much for the type r/TCAB hype. blew sub and components

This weekend my friend got his new tcab box and we hooked it up, blew the sub shortly, no distortion or clipping. it was a 12, now it is stiff as hell. Also this weekend my type r components blew running on my avionixx 440.4 with absolutly no distortion or clipping. my high pass is at 130hz. my type r tweeters blew also. And i don't see anything special with the tcab's either. it is a plywood ported box. Tcab just found a good volume and tuning for the type r, thats it, nothing special with the box. and they are not really vehicle specific either, TCAB has a small car box, larger car box, and a suv/truck box. and it really isn't specific to that , my friend got both the car box and suv box, and the suv box is louder with better sq in his car. I think i will be trying something different than type r's in the the future.

Pretty bold statements. You might want to do a little more if you expect people to take your statements seriously.

Your post is simply a story unsubstanciated by any type of proof; you're just saying things. I can say I have 9 Focal 13 inch subs in the back of my focus and that I hit 160 DB on a TL mic and shattered every single window in my car.. and that statement would hold as much validity as yours above.

Not trying to make you sound like an ***, I'm just recommending that you provide proof for your bold, negative attempt at discrediting someone who has repeatedly shown proof that his boxes work well.

Three blown pieces of equipment in one weekend........definitely points the blame towards the user/installer and NOT the manufacturer of any of the products //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

So, I fail to see how this contradicts the hype //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

i didn't say they did not work well, but they are nothing special either. I can build a box that "works" well. i am just saying i have some blown speakers and my friend has a blown type r 12 now, nothing crazy liek 9 12" subs. i said his boxes sound good, but i could build the same thing for less than 1/2 what he charges. this is more of a thread against type r's than tcab. i had a bad experience with them because they blew off pretty much rated power

and liek i said, there was no distortion or clipping on either set up.
prove it. Furthermore, state the "power" that the Type-R couldn't take.

and stop trying to make your arguments strong by making vague statements like "da typeRRRRR couldnt handel da powA lolz!1!"

Instead, make valid and strong substanciated statements such as:

"The 12" 4ohm-DVC '05 Type-R sub I installed seems to have malfunctioned under 600 watts RMS @ 2 ohms from my amp. In my opinion, it was not able to handle the power outputted and thus, this sub does not live up to its own popularity."

don't even try to start on the user error thing now, everything was installed correctly, the type r just can't handle the power
What kind of power are we talking about?

Also, don't state that your components blew. That has hardly anything to do with TCAB or the type-r (besides the fact that they were "type-r" components).

You're just bashing to bash.

Also, since your sig says you build custom boxes, why did your friend buy a TCAB? Since the box is SOO simple, couldn't you have just done it yourself? I don't think that you and your friend would pay for a TCAB box simply to "test it out"

my components were getting around 80 rms from the avionnixx 440.4, the 12" type r was getting probably around 1200 watts from a bd1500. there was no distortion or clipping. the type r did not even "smell" b4 it blew. and it was not brand new, it had been used for quite some time, so no defects or anything

take some pics inside the box and pm them to me. Then I will see why Mark thinks his boxes are sooooo damn special. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

You mean to come in here and tell me that you want to bash a sub because it blew after you gave it more power than the manufacturer recommends?

Boo-hoo... my civic transmission blew out doing 200mph... stupid civic, not worth its hype *tear tear*

my components are related to this thread, they are type r's, this thread just isn't about tcab
But when people read this thread, they are going to assume the type-r subwoofer, not the components. Thats what i was trying to state.

Also, thats some hefty power for a user such as yourself. In all honesty, i don't think anyone with the right experience/knowledge should use more than 800-1000 RMS for a 12" type-r, slightly less for the 10", and slightly more for the 15"

They are not magical "i'll take whatever you can give me, no matter what" subs.

Also, i'm a bit suspicious about your "used" sub and how it locked up instantly. I've rarely seen a sub lock up instantly, i'm thinking you got a dud speaker. Hell, most subs last a couple seconds plugged into a wall socket, let alone to an amp.
