just hooked up my system last night in my grand prix.. and it was getting decently loud for me..it was acceptable lol

but today i took it out around the block to hear it..and now when i turn it up..the speakers pop and lose output. It sounded like they were losing connection but i pulled them out the box and the wires are fine..

theyre in a slot ported box..not sure what the tune is..but when theyre popping i can cover the port and they stop popping until higher bass notes hit

im running two JL 12w6v2s on a hifonics brutusbxi2006d @1 ohm

any ideas?

I checked the coils with a multimeter..still putting down 2 ohm each

you sure you didnt spring an air leak in the box and its making those noises? i had a similar issue in a ported box, filled the little problems and noise went away

well..it is possible..should i free air them to see if the box is the issue? do you think they would pop that easy off that amp? i was beating the shit out of them last night and nothing..now today it just happened..im like wtf

they move weird when theyre popping too..like theyre not getting a good connection..but when i cover the port they move fine and dont pop..until high bass hits..then they kinda make a weird noise

Try them free air, check your tinsel leads too whats the rms per speaker v. the rms on the amp? Also could be a loose staple or screw in your box. Whenever I get a prebuilt box for someone I always put some screws in it and seal up the cracks with caulk

1000rms dirty power on a single jlw6v2....may be your problem right there...jl's arent loud speakers so giving them way over their rated rms value is not smart. plus im sure you have stock electrical. your speakers r blown because 1 you over powered them, 2 you have stock electrical, 3 your voltage dropped too low and 4 you sent them nasty power.

my idea

well i think its actually the amp..my 13w7 is doing the same thing

and when its doing it..the power light on the amp is flickering i free aired the w6 and it had almost 2" of excursion and didnt pop at all..i think the amp has a bad ground..cause when its popping and you turn it up..the amp goes into protection

i have a redtop optima up front and a redtop in the trunk as well..the lights dont dim at all

did you read? he has two subs... so his amp to two subs is fine. nasty power is not going to kill them, sorry but thats just silly. on that note, i did have a bad ground at one point and got some of the same symptoms.

good luck either way OP, I had some 12w4d4's back in like 2000 that i railed on until even the duct tape that was now the surround came uncvnted //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
