And they are some nice subs, especially for the money. I have two in a shared 9ft^3 box tuned to 33hz with 140in^2 of port.
The first impressions I had were full of surprise. The magnet on this is much larger than it appears on the mach 5 site. The build quality is very good as well. There is no extra glue anywhere, and everything looks seamless in construction. The sub looks great; I love a simple all-black subwoofer //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
In the box I am using them in, they have a nice upper roll-off at around 65-70hz, which works well with my RS180 mids. I really don't even need to use a crossover, but I still do at 63hz at 24db/oct. The upper end is very accurate and well-pronounced. The MJ-18 doesn't get sloppy when quick basslines in the 50-70hz range are thrown at it. The low-end on these is absolutely beautiful. Loud, accurate, and smooth are the three words that come to mind when playing below 45hz. You absolutely can't believe that these things cost just a little under $120+ship a piece...even though I got my pair on sale for $198 shipped.
All in all you cannot be disappointed by the MJ18, so long as you know what you're buying. It's not an spl monster, but It's a **** good sounding woofer, very accurate even in a ported box, and is the best bang for buck sub that I have ever heard.
