So I got in this 120 MPH race after bar close.........2000 SSEi vs 2010 Mustang GT

where the f*ck are you getting 600hp for 90,000? lol ive seen 2010 acrsrt10s go for 60,000. the price range for a zr1 is retarded. 106,000 for 638 rwhp? that completly retarded. you could spend 4000 more and get 600 more horses out of a hennessey acrsrt10 dude. their rated at 1200 hp. they are a hell of a lot faster than any vette out there and their only 4000 more than a laguna or callaway or zr1. they ARE the fastest 0-60, 0-100, and fastest top speed american build car besides the venom gt by hennessey. they do have horrible handeling but who cares. that what makes them fun? who wouldnt want to be able to do complete 360 donuts while driving 100 mph+. that what makes them fun. and every viper owner is supposed to take a class on how to drive them since they have no traction controll. so its not like your throwing a retard into the front seat of a super motor. and btw... i still like corvettes over any euro trash or jap crap anyday. all im saying is im sick of stuck up middle aged rich guys thinking their corvettes are the fastest american made product out there...

I'm just not a vette fan myself. Great car for sure, with a ton of performance.

Drove a buddies 2000 Ferrari 550 Maranello(heavily modded) a few months back, should have never let me..I will have one or something similar. Just love those cars. To many vettes around for my taste.

Nothing like the sound of a V12

Meh, while super fast productions cars are cool and everything, there's nothing quite like building up an old muscle car. It's like the difference between riding a Harley or custom chopper and a sport bike. Sure, the sport bike will smoke a Harley most the time, but the feeling of riding a Harley is a unique experience. All this arguing over which car is faster and which ****** is better is all a waste of time. Ya, a manual will usually get more power to the wheels, but depending on the application, may not yield a faster 1/4 mile time. A cars individual power band, rear end, weight, etc etc all play a part in how it performs. Every tiny adjustment can make a huge difference, and I don't think some people realize how big of a jump it is from a 10 second car to an 8 second car, or even from 11 to 10.

Sorry but I don't have a death wish. I'd rather a machine actually be able to put the HP to good use. And now, you're talking a used 2010 model vs a new 2011 model. ZR1s go up in value on resale, because they are in so much demand. The ACR goes down, because it is well on its way to needing a rebuild after 30k miles (much like your high end Lexus' or Callaways).

Oh, and I'm 25. Very, very far away from middle aged or rich. You can get into a well kept C5 for under 20k, put another 10k in it for performance parts, and have a sub 10sec ride. Will it break them lose in any gear? Yes. Do you want it to? No.

550s are like riding on a cloud, an unbelievably fast cloud. V12's do sound amazing too, agreed.

first you said db9????
Yea, that was another friend but he wouldn't let me drive how I wanted(I was limited to the exact speed limit and it was in town so no more then 45 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif ). He said he wouldn't let me hurt the car. The 550 I got to..um...put some throttle into it. I do wish it would have been faster though. His is no were near stock and runs really good, but I did expect a little more, but the the sound was like sex to the ears.

"Every proper drag car ever built uses a manual transmission. Some even go to the extreme of having several gear levers for each individual gear, all separately operating multi-plate clutches.

A manual gearbox allows the drive to be fed through the clutch and drivetrain more evenly and therefore more efficiently than the sun and planet arrangement of gears in an automatic box, which has to spool up to speed to pass drive through to the wheels.

Semi-Automatic gearboxes with automatic clutches are the most efficient method of changing gears, but they’re almost exclusively found in high end sports cars and purpose built race cars like Formula One." - Is Auto Or Manual Better If You Want To Drag Race? Or Is There No Difference? | frfry

I do not completely agree with the above statement (especially the first sentence), but it does give some insight into one of the advantages of a manual gearbox.

It is true that many very fast drag cars use highly modified automatics (*****-brake equipped), but that is a far cry from the guy at the track with his SRT-4 claiming his slushbox is a better transmission for racing than a manual transmission. The correct answer to this entire debate is that in some situations, one type is better, and in other situations the other type is better. But the original statement that started this whole thing was that automatics are generally better for racing because there is no lag between shifts, which is simply not true.

thevic, you are correct about top fuelies, good call.
LOL!!

I actually have a few clutch packs from one of John Force's cars....

The next time you watch a top fuel race, pay close attention to the "dust" that seems to come from the back of the car as it takes off.(for about the first 200' or so of track) that is the clutches burning up as they do there thing.

yep they have levers and they push them up so the clutches go in stages ?
