you sturrin at me brah?
went to swap my iraggi alt back in the explorer, and when i tightened down the nut on the battery terminal post on the alternator, the post broke off, leaving about 1/4 inch of threads. was a pretty clean break.

i still have the rest of the post, and my stock alt is intact, is this something a local alternator shop can easily swap out for me? i dont see anyway it could be welded, and wouldn't feel comfortable with something like jb weld holding a post together with live 12v leads connected under my hood.

also, my dumbass was thinking i'd save some time and not have to reset the crossovers and settings on my deck, by leaving my battery hooked up, so when the terminal broke, a live wire sparked on the casing of my alternator. could i have fried anything inside?

Hello/

The Charging Post can be repaired by an alternator shop. And it's possaible something else could have been burnt...and maybe not.Just try to find an Honest and Fair Alt Guy.Your friends or word of mouth may help too/:)That's the only route that is best IMMO.Take Care.

Kind Regards/

Raymond

wouldnt work, theres only about a 1/4 inch of thread. the 2 ring terminals going on there are at least that thick. just going to take it to an alternator shop on monday i think.

He's talking about something like this. Sorry about the fancy artwork.

Yeah I took a small class one time on repairing cars. I think the school was called the ISM Institute (International Shadetree Mechanics Institute). J/K. I have rebuilt a few alts, and that's the simplest way to repair something like that. No sense in paying to get it fixed when you can repair it yourself for like $.12 and you can make the bolt as long as you want to add other things if needed and it will work just as well.

i had the same problem with my alt, take the alt apart and remove the plate inside that holds the broken bolt, go to ace or home depot and get the rite size bolt for the hole, replace the bolt yourself and have a longer bolt if wanted and to reass the alt, you will need a paper clip or small wire to hold the contact brushes so you can reinstall the rotor and when the cases are back together remove the clip and youre done

im not meaning to post dump but here is a pic of the rear of my alt, look real close and you will see the small hole near the rotor bearing

this is the plate im talking about, installed a new brass bolt and nut,
