why is there smoke?
Alright well Ive got plans to deaden a Subaru legacy 2009 limited 4 door.

After doing some searching around on the forum and over the internet Im more confused than I began. I remember a long time ago seeing a very good comparison on Sound deadener show down what happened to that?

Also the CLD tiles that Sound deadener show down sells. Do you use those with other sound deadening products or is that what you primarily use for sound deadening?

Here are the prices I have looked up as of today

Audio Technix 25sq ft 60mill roll 40 dollars

RAAMmat BXT II, 37.5 sq ft 60mill roll 90 dollars

E-dead 80mill 2.00 a sq foot.

it seems that secondskins website is down so I could get there prices

Which of those do you guys think performs best and obviously if you have suggestions for another product let me know. How much do you guys think I will need to do all of the doors floor and trunk area on a subaru legacy (leaving the roof alone). And also my question about CLD tiles. Do you use only that? or do you use them with a roll of the above sound deadeners?

E-Dead... no.

CLD is just a type of deadener. And the good type. It's used alone, although some use some type of foam or whatever that "DynaLiner" stuff is over the top of it.

Do yourself a favor and get a CLD. Get the 80mil. I was a huge opponent of spending so much money on deadener until I saw some vibration testing results. 25% coverage of a properly designed CLD was waaaay more effective than 100% coverage of a non-CLD product like FatMat or Peal-n-Seal or whatever. Less money, less coverage, less weight... better results.

I've used AlphaDamp and that stuff is gangster but pricey. I went with AudioTechnix 80mil this last time and it's awesome too. It's no AlphaDamp, but I don't think it can be beat for the money.

If you send an e-mail to Don at Sound Deadener Showdown he will take the time to break down what all his products are for. There are lots of discussions to be found that have explained the 3 major types of products: CLD mat, closed cell foam, and mass loaded vinyl. There are other methods to take care of sources of noises that don't involve products that require online ordering.

The main thing to know is CLD alone isn't the answer. It's a multi-product project to not only reduce vibrations but also block outside noise.
