Anyway, amp upgrading still sounds like a good idea.

If you wanted different subs, perhaps two Kicker CompVX instead of the Type-Rs? Maybe a nearly sideways move though. But otherwise you're spending more money and then you're going to need more amplification anyway, lol.

There's also the Type-X, but I doubt you'd be able to keep it under $450 including shipping. And again then you're probably going to be underpowered...

Type R on 1200 watts is totally install dependant. I've put 2000 on an IA 187 without ill effects, and it's rated for 3/5 the power of a Type R.

im having a box built for 2 type r's powered by a hifonincs 1600w amp at 1 ohm. Box specs are 5 cubic ft, 75 sq. inches of port area, tuned at 34hz
