smokin' alternator

well i started up my car this morn and immediately saw a huge cloud of white smoke out from under the hood... im like shiiiitttt so i check it out and the smoke's coming from the alt //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif not such a bad thing tho, it is the stock one cause i have been a cheap *** on upgrading... guess i finally have a good reason to get a HO //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

anywhos.. im just wondering what made it go up in smoke? ive never seen an alt do that before... smelled horrible

edit: i also noticed that the little bit of noise i had in my speakers while driving was gone.. heh yes i was still jammin on the way to work

the kapton or varnish coating on the coils eventually breaks down and causes a short between the windings. Not totally uncommon

well apparently its still working... kinda

i just put the voltmeter on it during lunch... 12.6 car off and 13.8 car on at idle... guess its on its way out tho //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif
