Should I upgrade my stock battery? I haven't installed the system yet, but am wondering if I will need to upgrade the batt. I am driving a 2001 Buick lesabre.
I use stock, in a Cavalier.. I also use an efficient *** amp.
You'll be fine w/an efficient amp.. I've got mine for sale, if you're interested. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
You should be alright for a while as long as you do the Big 3 and have a pretty efficient amp, but if your wanting to upgrade i got a optima yellow top for sale 140 shipped
A local guy is offering a year old Stinger SP1000 for $90. That's why I was curious about upgrading the batt. But I wasn't sure if that was a good deal or not.
I run 2 300/4's and 1 500/1. but im not using 150 from one of the 300's. So that puts me at about 1000-1200rms depending on what the amps really put out. I did the big 3 with 4 gauge and I am running stock 130a alt with stock batt. I get dimming at higher almost peak volumes.
As others have said - the battery is really not much of a contributer unless you play with the engine off all the time, and if that's the case - just changing batteries won't do much for you. You need multiple batts to significantly improve engine off listening time.
Either way - if you're really concerned about the performance of your electrical system the alternator is what you should be looking to upgrade.
However, 1000w rms isn't a huge system. Most stock charging systems will have no problem with that.
FWIW - I run ~1100w with a 110A alt and a 7 yr old $60 wal-mart battery. It's not much for engine-off listening, but otherwise works well, and has been for about 3 yrs.
I have an 89 buick lesabre and I believe I have a 130 amp alt stock, cant remember. Buicks tend to have a pretty beefy stock electrical system. You will be fine with the 1000 rms.
