Slot port and sub distance

Simple question kinda just want to know if the quality is goin to be hindered a lot if the slot and sub are too close together. Basically 2 12s would be in about a 25-26 inch space and on the same side there will be a 5 inch space for a slot port. Is this gonna be too close together or what?

The closer the better. This gives them a coupling effect, like with line array speakers in home audio.

Seriously? I was always under the impression u try to put the port as far from the driver as possible. Or is that just port ends/flares?
