I am looking to install a sub and need to decide if I'm going to build my own custom box or not. I have 1 JL 12w6v1 sub and I have obtained all the recommended specs from the JL website.

I'm not looking for system that people can hear a mile away. I want tight, accurate, clean, hard lows.

In order to achieve this, should I make a box according to JL specs, smaller that JL specs, larger than JL specs or should I just ditch the 12 and buy a 8" sub that is built for this type of response.

JL Specs:

18 x 13 x 13.75 = 1.25 cu. ft.

Thanks,

JJ

Try the sealed then. If you feel you're lacking low end extension you might try to build a ported box to give you a little more output down low.
