six inch rule, for components

x-over points are just as critical as tweeter location. I don't have my tweeter's mounted anywhere near my mid and I have an awesome soundstage in my car. Ideally you would want the mid's and tweets in kicks with the Mid angled towards the firewall IIRC. That isn't always an option for everyone however and with a little ingenuity and a good processor anyone can have a good soundstage.

Are you referring to the crossover points as in actual freq. you crossover at, or does the mounting position of the actual passive crossover matter?

So would a CDT braxial set be a very good alternative in case you didn't want to cut any holes from your door or lower kick area?

Keep in mind the braxials are not the only comp set to give you this option. It's actually decently common. For example, Boston Acoustics used to include a tweeter bridge with their comp sets to allow you to mount the tweeter over the mid co-axially, and on their current speakers the tweeter can actually screw onto the end pole piece for a co-axial mount.

And, even if your comp set doesn't come with a tweeter bridge, it isn't hard at all to fab one up out of some metal stock from Home Depot.

So, basically, don't think that you only have that option with the CDT Braxials (many people do, for some reason).......

since the question has already been answered, im gonna thread jack.

im running my comps passively with the tweets in the a-pillars pointing at opposite headrests. i have no clue what the x-over point is and i can distinctly hear my tweets from my mids. is the only way i can blend better by going active and raising the xover point? (keeping the apiller mounts) i have a premier 860 btw. i'm not even sure promode will allow for such a high xover as 7khz.

Keeping the pillar mounted tweets, IMHO your best option would be to go 3-way, and throw a smaller midrange in the kick to pick up the midrange frequencies. You aren't going to be able to highpass the tweeter at 7khz without something to fill in the other frequencies, and it's doubtful that your current mid will go that high.

another thing that I get a kick out of is how it was mentioned in this thred of how the tweeter and thie mid are suposed to be with in bla bla bla of each other ok to clear this up the exact answer is the x over point it is crossed over at devided the speed of sound by the fz so 1254 isn't it devided by what ever the fz is lets say its x over at 2.5Khz so .5ft from each other don't quote me on that beein the speed of sound in ft though look it up to be sure. also it was left out how the midle of the v/c of both the tweeter and the mid are to be on the same axis to put the sound at a strait direction if not you need to find the horizantel axis of the two and go 90degrees off to find where the sound will be projected. lol all in all it comes down to put the tweeter around yonder use some double sided sticky tape or some dumb dumb (window butel) close your eyes put in a nice sq cd and listen to it now move it I sugest having some one of avrage size in the passanger seat if you usualy drive with some one else in the car. how dose it sound. cool it sounds good. Time alignment will make a difrence for tweeter placement if you have it biamped with the tweeter and the mid for left one as rear and one as front so they can be individualy time aligned this can be done passively too if you go passively X over though more complicated. as for having a tweeter in the piller or on the dash I would also like to say this can be done if it is x over at high fzs like squeak said though I would use a second tweeter to do this running low power to it and have the primary tweeter next to the mid this is just to raid the soundstage in truth.the less speakers you have the easer it is to produce great imaging in truth a single speaker set up would be best though having a driver that plays from 20-20Khz linnear is just not that simple.

I believe that's called zero delay plane.

When I attended the Houston SQS I picked up a couple of interesting facts and theories. Scott Buwalda seems to believe that 6kHz is the magic frequency to cross your tweet's at. The problem of course is to find a mid that will play up that high without audible cone breakup. I tried to cross my mid's that high and they didn't handle it very well.

figure out what you can on paper as a starting point then do the moving around is about the best way never in my life have i figured anything out exactly on paper then it work best without moving the speakers around a little but you are pretty much right on.

I'm sooooo jealous you got to go to that //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif There is going to be one near me, but the $300 entry fee is a little too steep for my blood.
