Single ten port

My box for my ten has (2) 3'' flared aeroports and there isn't any port noise at all. But in .86ft^3 the ports will be incredibly long if you have two of them....so take that into consideration.

A single 4" port would be around 24" long. 2 3" would be just over 28" each. Depending on the sub and the amount of power that you're running, a single 3" with flares might be plenty of port and will be such smaller. Using a single 3" port with a 3/4" flare radius would only require a 9.8" pipe between the flares.

Sub will be a mach5 ixl10. I will smooth it out as much as possible, but there will be no flare on the port.

It will be wired on a rockford 3000 amp wired to 4 ohms to give it around 1k . I'll be taking it easy on the sub since this will be my winter setup.

I don't have any experience with the ixl10 yet, but I plan on it one day. But I know for my 10'' BL on 1000 watts in 1.25ft^3, (1) 3'' aero was not enough....once I added the second 3'' aero and made the enclosure bigger it really came alive and had 0 port noise. What vehicle will this be going in?

i have ran 2 different boxes for single 10's with only one 3 inch port, you dont need that much port area for a single 10, one 4 inch at the most. I have run single 4 on many single 12 setups.

With that power and that sub you're going to want some more port area. I spent nearly a day trying to get the ports to fit in a box for a pair of IXL 10s with enough port area to keep port velocity down. The port ended up about as big as the box and I couldn't fit PVC ports in the truck, much less the box. I was tuning MUCH lower, but a lower tune allows for less port area and moves the high velocity frequencies out of the primary freq range. I was also using less power (less than half that per driver) which allows for less port and I still needed a pretty big port.

You don't need to use aero ports or precision ports to get a flare. You can simply use a router with a large roundover bit and get great results. Glue a piece of wood as a flange on the end of the port inside the box and use the roundover bit on it, too. Using a 4" PVC port in that box with a 3/4" roundover you should be OK with that tuning and power. The port needs to be 20 3/4" between the flares. Without the flares you're going to get a TON of port noise with a single 4" port. A pair of 3" ports won't be much better. With the flares though a pair of 24" long 3" ports should have no problem with port noise.

Not enough port. At 1000 watts of power using a single 3 inch port, you will have a vent velocity of roughly 50 m/s or 17% mach plus. Clearly over 35 m/s or 10% mach, where port noise is noticeable.

In some cases you may be able to get away with using a single 3 inch port with a ten, but that is all dependent on the driver, box alignment and power.

Well box is made with dual 3's. Would have taken picks but I left my phone at home. I'll keep everyone posted on how it goes.

Now waiting on the sub.
