Single cab truck system

I just joined this site and have used the search feature but am hoping for some recomendations.

I have a 2003 Single cab Dodge ram. As of now i have an Alpine CDA-117 head unit, and 2 Apline

6x9`s in the doors. I have a pair of polk audio db104 subs that i was going to buy a truck box and put just one of them in the truck.

Im looking to put a decient system that will sound as good as i can get it on a budget. I dont think I want to go with components as i dont know where to mount tweeters and i think it will run up the cost of the system.

Im pretty sure the rear speakers are 5.25`s and im not sure what the dash speakers are or if its worth replacing them. What im looking for is what i should go with as far as speakers for the rest of the truck, what amps to look at, and if i should amplify the door and rear speakers or just run them off the head unit.

I would LOVE to mount the sub under the seat but cant find a box that will mount there for a single cab.

Hoping to hear your suggestions!!! thanks!!!

Total budget can be flexable for a good setup, It can all be done with time as its working fine right now so if a pair of 120 dollar speakers is a much better product than an 80 dollar set I would just go with the 120 dollar ones, but if i can get away with wire thats lets say 40 dollars and get the same quality for my set up as a 100 dollar wire i would save the money.

realistically id like to find a used amp or something in the 150 range, and a cheap box even if i have to modify it to be a little better. once again not trying to go to a competition of something just would like the best sounding system i can get for the cheapest price. Thanks again

what space do you have for a sub box? you said you would like to put one under the seat. Do you have room?

If you went with a component set. You could put the tweeters where your dash speaker are now. (You would have to make some sort of mount for them.)

I think 1 tenDVC4ohm at a2ohm load ported will be ideal, and realistic at a min of 600rms, and i have some oldschool amps that will bang that sub just fine and small foot print, and add a pair of tweeters up front, put front stage on an amp, and the rears off of the HU, or dont even worry about it, as all the sound needed will be front stage, and rear pillars are just a fill, and maty throw the staging off in a single cab.Look at a SVC4ohm 10in, with at least 600rms, and a good set of 1in tweeters, and see about a good 4ch SoundStream ampRubicon for under 200.00, And I think you will be fine.Alot of people recommend SSA Decon/T3 subs. You can build a subbox ported for a 10, and will sound pretty good in a scab.I like JBL Titanium Tweeters, but Infinity are pretty good too_Others will suggest differently.I have a couple amps 2-2ch that will be great quality for this type of setup,I will look for the ampSS that I am talking about to run 3ch.

Rubicon 4.600 by SoundStream will get it done and its under $200, and a good amp to start with in Trimode. As you upgrade, this can be used for the mids and highs only, and buy another amp/mono block later for the sub/subs when you have more funds.Id keep those 6x9 in the doors since they are there, utilize them, and they will be loud enough, adding a tweeter in the front pillars.Just my opinion, to get started, with a decent amp to utilize for future upgrade in mind also.

Thanks guys, I already have the sub, the type S, and the head unit.

Audiobaun, your saying get a pair of tweeters and add them to the dash, not get components and add the tweeters to the dash right?

So i would get tweeters and add them to the front and keep the 6x9 type S in the door and amp the both of them? i assume i would then set my filters for the sub on the lows, the 6x9 for the mid and the tweeter for the highs? Im a noob compared to alot of you guys so im trying to learn this at the same time. Thanks

Yes sir, I think tat that will be great! If I had the N U T S A C K to cut my doors out for 6x9, I sure would do it,Amp those puppies, along with a set of tweets in the front pillars, and it will be pretty loud, and should sound Great.IMO:D

The sub is a 10" polk audio db104 SVC 4 ohm.

Would it still work well making a bracket to fit in the stock dash speaker location? they will be facing up but i dont know where else to put them. I dont have a place on the pillar to mount them. any ideas?

Tweeters usually come with 3-4 different ways to be mounted .They can be surfaced mounted angled, have brakets to add to existing speaker locations.Several ways to add a tweeter, and easy to do.In the pillars approx ear/eye level is where I have one set,one set in doorsat an angle, and one set just about behind me flowing across from side to side as a rear filler, and works well,If your pillar is approx 1in wide, you can put them there.I drive a 2005Dodge scab at work around town, and sometimes Im in the double cab turbo deisel,it an 09.But , i know you have the space to do it there. It will work just fine. You may have to surface mount, and angle it, but will be hard to see/recodnize from outside, only if you are seriously paying attention.Or you can surface mount at an angle to the person being seated, and works just as well.I like them at eye/ear level.Get them, and Pm me, and I can send you some ways to add them in.Easy to do.And will make your front stage so much better, that you wished you had done it before now.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

thanks alot!! im going to look for some tweeters to buy on crutchfield. then will post again once i get them with some pictures. Any sugestions on what 5.25 speaker i should go with on the rear or should i not even bother if im amping the tweets and the 6x9`s?
